Obstacle for K1??

I haven't yet filed for a K-1, but I will be looking into doing so soon...however, my fiance is Egyptian, and he has a military requirement after he graduates from his institute. If I do file the K-1, will he not have to fulfill that requirement? Does anyone know about this? Thank you!

If he emigrates before his requirement obligation begins then I imagine not. Kind of hard to do it if you are not in the country. How that will affect him in the future should he want to return for any reason I do not know.

I asked my husband, and he said that if he travels before he graduates from institute, he should be ok, but if he graduates, he's in God's hand, and it's up to the army whether they want him or not. He also says that if he's going to be a dr. or engineer, the army will most likely take him.

Whether the army wants him or not is a gamble. I really don't understand the rhyme or reason to it, but from what I understand from my husband, it changes from year to year depending on the needs of the army. My husband wasn't needed, but his brother and all of his friends have served.

So, in short, no filing a K-1 won't negate the army requirement.

Escaping your army duties if you're asked to serve is a one way ticket to jail (and torture) if he should ever return to Egypt. Don't mess with the Egyptian beauracracy. You won't come out ahead.

I think I have to go through them as well if I am to file. Do you know anything more about this process to bypass the military requirement or heard anything about it? Thanks so much once again.

Yes, Kitkat is correct. My case was forwarded to California. Once received there, it was approved in 39 days But I'm not sure if this timeframe is common now.

i can only tell u what my husband told me about syria. he also had a military requirement but he went to college and then to saudi arabia to work. he had to pay like $5,000 to get out of his military duty. i think he said if he would have moved to europe or america it would have been $10,000. so for him there was a way around the military duty. i dont know if that is true in egypt also.

also one of his friends came to the united states and lived here for a while. he also did not go to the military and did not pay his way out of it. so when he went back to syria for a visit...they got him right in the airport and took him to the military.

so u see...it might cause him problems not now but later.

My husband says "Don't worry, they'll call him and let him know everything he needs to do. It's advertised on television, everyone from this year ____ please report for army duty."

I don't think there is any form he can fill out to try to get out of it.
