Picked up Envelope from 2Go, Corner is Cut. Is This Normal?

Candy picked her package up today from 2Go, and the corner of the brown envelope is cut. A clerk at the 2Go counter said this is normal. Just wanted to ask the community here about that rather than take one person's word for it.

The cut is not big enough to see the contents of any documents, just to see that there are documents inside.

Yes, it is normal.

Thanks guys. I did some research on the net which showed the same thing. i just did not want to take the word of one single clerk just to find out at JFK Airport that he is wrong.

There are two things you can do.

  1. As this happens A LOT, and is not a terrible thing that should be worried about. Having said that (see #2 below), it's up to you but you can call the Embassy and they'll arrange with you that it will be shipped back to them through 2GO.

You will most likely be instructed to include the passport with the envelope. It will also require a letter of explanation. You will ship it back to the embassy, supposedly without any charge. The embassy will only take about 1 day to turn it around and send it back again by 2GO. So, shipping time x2, plus one business day, is the total time involved.

  1. If the package is not damaged in a way that you can get more than two fingers or a hand in the brown envelope then you will be fine passing through your POE. The Agents at the POE have experience and they know when a package has been compromised and when it is "normal" wear and tear. A tear or cut less then 2cm will not prevent you from traveling through with no problems at your POE.

The info I got so far is that a cut corner is the normal envelope that USEM uses. This is not a tear. I know that would be big time trouble. It is more lke the form of the envelope, i.e. a clean precise cut. It pretty well fits the description of what you wrote in #2,

I searched posts here and many others have the same cut corner and never had a problem.

Thakns for the advice but I think we will be OK.

That is SOP for the cut corner. After removing the passport have Candy keep the DO NOT OPEN envelope in the plastic bag to protect it and keep that in her carry-on bag as she will need it immediately at POE.
