My husband's review of Dr. Juliana Cançado's office (May 2014)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did my medical exam with Dr. Juliana Cançado in Belo Horizonte. It was an excellent experience. I called them a week in advance because I live in another state, but they had appointments available for the next day if I needed. Cida (one of the clerks) told me that I needed to bring:

1) the consulate's appointment letter;

2) $150USD (or the corresponding amount in reais, using the conversion rate of the day of the appointment); I had the option of paying using a debit card, but I paid in dollars/cash;

3) THREE 3x4 photos (not TEN, but it may depend on the case);

4) My passport (possibly my ID would have worked too);

5) Cash or debit card to pay for the exams: blood(5reais), Xray(50reais).

6) Vaccine card (I also brought my medical exams from when I got my J1 visa).

My appointment was scheduled for 10:45am, but I arrived at around 10am, so Cida took in my documents and payment and gave me the blood and Xray exam request forms. She said I could do the exams before I had my appointment. The clinics where I got the exams done were right next door and across the street.

The blood exam was quick and the result was ready at around 3pm. They knew that it was a visa exam, so they automatically considered it urgent. I got the results on the next day, again very quickly.

The Xray place was on the 9th floor and the elevators took more than 10 minutes to come by, so I climbed the stairs. Since the place was crowded and disorganized, I went back to the Dr's office to have my appointment. When I came back (again 9 flights of stairs) they worked quickly, but since I didn't ask for urgency, I had to wait until 2pm of the next day to get the results. On the next day, disorder reigned again and I only received the exam results at around 3pm.

My first appointment with Dr. Cançado went pretty smoothly. She asked me background questions (if I was ever illegal in the US etc), general health questions and looked at my vaccination cards. Then she performed some physical exams (weight, height, breathe in/out etc). She told me to get a few vaccines, which I got in the same building where the dr's office is located (I paid with a debit card).

My return appointment with Dr. Cançado was also very quick and smooth. Upon examining my blood, Xray, and vaccine receipts, she proceeded to finalize the consulate forms. She put them in an envelope and Cida sealed them in front of me. They gave me the sealed envelope to bring to the consulate. I had no problems at the consulate.
