Hello,

This is for our friend's case. He is a US Citizen who plans to go to Philippines to meet his girlfriend. They been talking online for almost 2 yrs now. He will go to Phil. this August 2014, my question is can he file for a fiancee visa before he meets his gf? He wanted to bring his gf here asap and he's wondering if he can file it now or not yet till he meet her in person.

I appreciate your insights about this situation. pls. share...thank you so much!

they have to meet 2 times if they want to apply for k1.and proof of realtionship

no, I would say that is wrong. They have to have met at least once in the last two years, that is the K1 requirement.

Look at the I129F filing instructions under the section "Who may File From I-129f" 1b.

As others advised above, it is a requirement that they meet in person (face to face) first at least once within 2 years before filing the I-129f, and that they have a reasonable amount of evidence to show of this meeting. What your friend can do for now is to read in advance on what he needs to submit with the I-129f packet. Here's the VJ guide in assembling it: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

before we filed for a k1 we only met once and got engaged,we met on line, when we wanet to apply for k1 after meeting once the lawey said,u can apply, but since u only met once,it may rise some eyebrows my advice is meet al least once more....which we did, they can do whatever they want, but its better not to risk

The two posters asianculture, and one other, are wrong, there are two requirements to file K-1 .,., you have to met faace to face within the past 1-2 years, and you are legally ready to marry! Thats it!

No, where does it say, you must meet more than 1 time face to face, and spend time together!

Here are the three main requirements for an I-129F petition >

1) Both are free to marry at the time the petition is filed.

2) You have met in person, face-to-face at least once within the 2 years prior to filing the petition.

3) You both have the intent to marry in the US within 90 days of the foreign fiance(e) entering with a K-1 visa.

The requirement for the I-129F petition is to have met in person at least once within the 2 years prior to filing. Later on when applying for the actual K-1 visa, you need to prove your relationship is valid. For some consulates it is better to have more time together in person than just one, short meeting. However, this is not the case for all consulates, and it is not actually a requirement that you must have been together in person more than once to be eligible for a K-1 visa for any consulate.
