Could anyone tell me what an A# is? I know I don't have one and my fiance says that if he has one he doesn't know it. Any thoughts? :energetic:

A# = Alien number??

I also would like to know exactly what it is and what is it for? :blush:

--> Jan 27th, 2006 - Sent the petition to Nebraska SC.

--> Jan 31st, 2006 - 1st NOA received by mail.

--> April 20th, 2006 - 2nd NOA in snail mail!

--> May 5th, 2006 - NVC received and left

--> May 24th, 2006 - Pack. 3 received and left (never received package 4, so the Embassy sent me its content by e-mail)

--> July, 16th, 2007 - USCIS site: Security checks cleared. Welcome Letter in the way!

--> July, 26th, 2007 - GREEN CARD IN THE MAIL!!! (done with USCIS until 04/2009)

Removing Conditions on Residency

--> April 16th, 2009 - Sent I-751 Application to California Service Center

--> May 8th, 2009 - NOA received (1 year extension letter]

--> June 1st, 2009 - Biometrics appt. letter received

An A number is an Alien registration number that is assigned to immigrant visas (also includes those that will be applying for K visas), most working visas, J2's. So anyone having such a petition or application before will have been assigned an A number. If you do not know a previous A number you can put unknown on the form. An Alien registration number is an A followed by 9 numbers. Some members here get an A number on their NOA but not all. An A number would of been assigned though. You will possibly be assigned a few A numbers throughout this process.

My sense is that it might be more accurate (but maybe not 100% accurate) to say that it's a number that is assigned to alien case files (petitions and applications, as you wrote but I didn't quote) by the USCIS to associate different cases with a particular alien and keep all the files for that person together.

They put the A# on top of the beneficiary name on the NOA2.

I think it all depends, like Aussie some get one on the noa1, some on the noa2.............guess it all depends.

Gav was assigned an A# on our noa1.
