My fiance and I have decided to marry in August rather than apply for a fiance visa.

Is the proof of an ongoing relationship etc.the same as the fiance visa?

Just about everything was ready to be mailed off, but after alot of discussion and thought we have decided to wait.

We will marry in Morocco during my month long stay.

Any advice/suggestions? ?

Thanks!!

A copy of your marriage certificate if it is not in English translation is needed.

A letter from the bank --->joint account you may have or anything that is under both names...(dont worry if you don't have anything yet as a couple (We opened a bank account in my country after a month of getting married.)

You can send photos if you want (I sent few pictures of our wedding), copies of conversations such as text but that's optional. You can add as much evidence as you want but make sure the amount of evidence is reasonable.

Joint bank accounts are not required to file an I-130 and couples living apart in separate countries would not be expected to have one.

How about adding his name on a utility bill?? Will they accept something like that?

You can do this but it's not necessary for you to do this. If you are living apart in separate countries, you are not required nor are expected to have joint bank accounts, own property together, have a lease in both names, or have bills in the same name.

Focus on evidence of time spent together in person, that is your strongest evidence.

Like I said "don't worry about it" it is not necessary. But I did sent an official letter for my case, since we have one I decided to included. It is not required, you are correct, and I agree.

Whew, glad you agree....

OP on this subject of joint bank accounts as evidence...even IF it was an important piece of additional evidence, which it is not. dont bother chasing it down in Morocco. A spouse needs to be a Resident and show proof of it to have her name a bank account with husband.

About your utility bill and putting his name on it...if he lives in Morocco, why would his name on your utility bill show proof of a bona fide relationship?

You have plenty ahead of you in this "month" to take care of when marrying in Maroc. This is what I would be reading up on. A few things before your go....

i.e. paperwork you will need to bring with.....if divorced, proof of dissolution of any previous marriages (original or certified copy), A local police record where you live or from the FBI. (I got my local one, much easier was about 10 $ and two days in the mail) Your original BC or Certified Copy. And when you get to Morocco make an appointment right away online for the Affidavit of Nationality and Eligibility to Marry form at the Counsulate. This will eventually be only one of the papers your will compile to be translated from English to Arabic by a certified tranlator.

He probably knows what he needs to get over there but it is a lot of paperchasing and hopefully he will get some done before you arrive.

When you get there....There are stamps. court visits. police stations. and if you are organized it can be done ....we got it completed in about a week. But I was living there four months at a time through out the year. We had more time than your visit.

Hope this helps and more importantly hope u have enough quality time to get to know each more face to face.....before you marry in your visit.

Forget the utility bill for now.

I have a very similar story to you, we got married and was only married for about 1 month before I applied for the I130. We had nothing with both of our names on it. I sent pictures, phone cards, phone records, letters, receipt of money he sent(I had him send it just for extra evidence), letters from a few family members saying they knew we are in a real relationship, plane ticket and fmm form(proof I visited), and receipt of a package I sent him. This seemed to suffice and our I130 was approved in 96 days. Good luck to you!

Depending on the city you are getting married and the time you are traveling give yourself more than a month. I arrived right after Ramadan and everyonnnne was on vacation. we were sitting ducks for an entire week and then we had to travel all over because we didnt have this right paperwork and that correct paperwork it was kind of a mess. No one had a straight answer on what we needed.

One thing I hadnt brought was something like my title of my car with my name or my name on a lease. They wanted something like that. And there is one place in Rabat you will need to go to which was miserable for me. I have traveled to Morocco every summer since I was 4 and had never experienced something like that. I wish I had brought my mother or sister in law. (Just a heads up), because they wont let your husband go with you.

And you will need to go to the doctors. (i believe that wasnt mentioned above)
