Gah.......

....so a quick update.... finally got to speak to a supervisor (Mari) today, and let me say she was incredibly awesome!!

The issue is that they don't think my divorce certificate is the right one.... she worked with me to go through what their example is and how it compared to what the courthouse gave me. I sent the correct form for Ontario (Form 36B Certificate of Divorce), confirmed it says all the right things, she said she sees it's signed in blue (so confirmed for me they actually DO have it ~ told previously they didn't have it)...

...but the "official" seal is the issue!! On mine, there is a raised seal, the paper is indented with the logo of the court house; on their example form there was a red stamp in the circle reserved for the seal..... after a little back and forth she is escalating it further to confirm that Montreal will accept this or if they want me to get something else....

So here I sit and wait..... Mari said she expects to have a response and should be able to call me back either today or tomorrow, but I should call back Friday if I don't hear/see anything come through.

She did say that Montreal is one of those embassies that wants the file completely done before they will take it ~ meaning corrections/updates go through NVC and cannot be brought to the interview (like I see some others mention....)

So, fingers crossed.... praying/chanting/whatever..... looking for tonnes of positive vibes that they accept this and give me the case complete!! This is **IT** almost done!!!!

Anyone receive their actual green card yet? How long did it take from POE?

My lovely bank will not add my husband to my account without his actual green card. They will not accept the stamped Visa :|

It's a bank that services the NSA, so I guess they have enhanced security requirements.

Oh well, we're used to waiting...

Which is illegal of them. It is a legal document which grants his lpr status.

I'm sorry! That really sucks! I can't believe they'd be so worried about something so silly...it has a seal!! I hope that you hear back from them soon and hear good news at that! I am sending you all the positive vibes I can!! Let us know how it goes!

christina, mine has both (raised seal and red stamp) and i got it in Ontario too. not sure why yours doesn't have the red ink stamp. could it be your mistaking a copy for the original. I did that initially then once I found the original it made more sense.

praying for you!

that's interesting...... not sure why I don't have the red ink stamp then.... this is the only Certificate I got from the court house.... once the divorce was final ( a few years ago) I never bothered to go back to get the 36B until I found out I'd need it for this process, so I picked it up July 2014.... I've made a few photocopies, but the original just has the blue signature and raised stamp....

REALLY hoping they accept it!!!! Hopefully I should know tomorrow ***fingers crossed***

know what???? i didn;t pay any interest in it either until i applied and had to start submitting docs....its then when i questioned the authenticity of my 'photocopy'....i got scared and questioned why it wasn't so real looking....and only upon digging and digging and digging did I realize my photocopy wasn't the authentic copy but i actually had an original. keep digging sista, you will find it!

i was such a mess (although then, i wouldn't admit to it) when the divorce was going through and i thought i had it together (and i did for the most part) but it was upon find the original that i realized that i was really a wreck. keep digging sista, you will find it!

and if not....pray, pray, pray that the new will be okay.

and i bet you in years to come, you will find it and laugh and cry and laugh some more. when this happens, think back and remember this moment and have lots to drink that evening :)

Everything has been pretty straightforward so far. You will need the SSN for quite a few things (DMV, bank account, credit card etc) so you cant do anything until you get that which was two weeks for me.

Just looking for a job now and waiting for my EI to be approved.

Good luck to your wife next week!
