My husband had his interview yesterday for IR-1 in Montreal. Unfortunately we were given a 221g for domicile. This despite my having a firm job offer letter. The Co wanted to see proof of children registered in school. I am living with my husband in Canada. My job starts May 1, and we plan to move April 1. I am waiting on campus housing, which may become available sometime in March for an April move-in date.

Without this lease agreement for campus housing, I cannot register children in school.

The area we are moving too has a dire housing shortage so rentals will be available only with the minimum notice period, so for rentals for April, we may not hear of them until end Feb/early March anyway.

In addition to job offer, I also had school board correspondence, moving quotes, bank statements with assets available in the US, my medical license etc.

The Co told my husband that we could send in the proof of domicile along with his passport.

Any ideas on how long it may take the consulate to actually the visa, once we send in a lease agreement and school registration proof?

Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions.

My interview is over, I was approved although I think I was close to not being approved lol.

The lady asked me what I planned on doing for work and had I looked into it yet. I said I googled somethings to see what the job market and job requirements were, but that I hadn't applied for anything yet. She then asked if I had any documentation of my plans in the U.S.A and I said no...thinking she was talking jobs. She was typing and I got a bad vibe, after a couple minute of her typing I said "well, I have a lease and receipt from the moving truck when my husband moved stuff down earlier this month, and the packing list." Her demeanor changed a bit, and she wanted to see those. I offered other proof of domicile, and she said that this was enough. A couple more minutes of typing and she said she would be issuing me a visa.

I'll write a full review when I get home.

Yes you should have a separate letter. She has a separate P4.

I have registered on Loomis and added my daughter as a family member and confirmation shows me as an principal applicant and my kid as a child.

Now i think if should I register her under separate account since we have two separate cases and two separate interview letters? Does anyone know?

Proof of a home in the USA is the strongest proof of domicile. Looks like Montreal is still very strict on that.

I didn't realize you need proof of domicile? My husband is in the united states and I live in Canada - will I need to show that we have plans to live together? He has purchased a townhouse a couple of years ago - should I bring mortgage statements?

You have to enter the US within 6 months of the medical. Then, the stamped visa is good for a year.

You only need this if the petitioner was living with the beneficiary in the foreign country.

as stated, the visa is good for 6 months from medical and once endorsed at POE is a valid green card for 1 year.

2013: July 20: I-130 sent (Chicago lockbox)

July 24: I-130 NOA1

July 24: I-129F sent (Dallas Lockbox)

Aug 2: I-129F NOA1

Aug 12: Alien Registration Number was changed, I-129F.

2014: Jan 28/29/30: - 3 transfer notices for I-130 and I-129F.

Feb 3 - Hard copy arrived -Notice of transfer to Texas stating Jan 29th.

Thanks, NLR and P&D Sigler for answering my question.

I am now in holding pattern, waiting for an apartment to become available for me to sign a lease agreement, in SF Bay area, then register my kids in school, then send the copies of lease agreement and school registration back to Montreal so they will hopefully issue my husband's visa.

Any thoughts?

I already have a firm job offer starting May 1 2015, which I showed to the consulate, but it was not adequate to prove re-establishment of domicile.

I will also submit moving contract (I did have quotes for the interview, again not adequate), and maybe one-way tickets for myself and my two kids.

Any thoughts/advice?

Hmmmm.... looking to get the thoughts/opinions of the hive mind ;)

We are (hopefully) nearing the end of USCIS stage... and I have a wee bit of time off work over the holiday. I was thinking of heading down to the local police station to order the Clearance or whatever it is NVC wants.... what do you think? Too soon? I think I've read that they should be valid for a year... .I am hoping to be able to be through the process and have an interview June/July....
