If you have not engaged an ILS human at your congressman's office (there are 2 - 2 Senators and 1 Representative) - I suggest , strongly, you engage on Monday, starting with the privacy release form.

Yes, we have the congresswoman's office engaged with a real human, but that human is out last week, so they will again follow up next week.

The real frustration is they are wrapped up in their own 'process' and can't think outside the box. In simple terms use their intelligence to say "this is a mess, let me look into why it's a mess" and then call and talk to a few folks and sort out the issues. Relying on broken process and bureaucracy is futile, and only serves to justify their own existence and government wage. Heaven forbid if they were efficient, they might need less staff. Jobs for the boys!

Major Mega Update

The green card is here!!! <-------

Here is how the finale played out.

After my last rant about USCIS and ELIS incompetence and stupidity, which it does amount to, I had several emails with our congress liaison. She had their liaison in Washington DC contact the USCIS morons and escalate things a bit. This was July 28th 2014.

Later that same day we got two status updates.

On July 28, 2014, your card order was corrected or verified and we re-ordered a new card for you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move while this card is being created, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

On July 28, 2014, the production of your new card began. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move while this card is being created, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283

Having minimal faith in the process we waited with baited breath.

August 1st gave us another status update. This time telling us the card had been mailed! Was so excited as never had one of those before, and also noticed ELIS status had now moved from 'reopened' to 'closed'.

And finally today we got this - The USPS reported that your new card was delivered on August 2, 2014, directly to the address we had on file.

Just to add a final note of disbelief they sent the card to our old address in VA. Just fortunate that we have premium mail forwarding and know the local post office well, who have now forwarded it to us :) We actually filed a change of address 6 months ago! I hear the Muppets theme tune playing.

And so I close this post from my perspective, and hope it serve in perpetuity to others who find themselves in this mess with the US Immigration service.

Use your congress representative to help, it work, and may be the only way to break the cycle of ignorance and stupidity.

A HUGE shout out to Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, and especially to her representative Vanna who has been superb throughout. Thank you so very much!

oh man - I would be sweating bullets over the address change thingie with USPS, as they ain't supposed to forward stuff from USCIS. I know I sweated it, and lost much body mass. [which was a side effect of the first mail-out] ..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Just a note for anyone with a change of address mid processing. USPS do a Premium Forwarding service, a chargeable service for approx $17 a week at the time of writing. Yes $17!

What this does is forwards everything, and I mean everything, including 'do not forward' items. This is how we are sure it's coming to us, and the fact I called and spoke to the local post office to confirm. I even have a tracking number for it :)

Premium Forwarding is expensive, but it ensures you get any item of mail even if it has to be signed for. I've had items from Europe that were registered and signed for, and they sign for them at your local Post Office, and then send them on in your next weekly shipment. This is also the only way they forward magazines and suchlike.

When I called yesterday and spoke to the Post Office, they actually redirected the item so I wouldn't have to wait, and at no extra charge :) It currently says due to be delivered Monday!

Kudos to USPS for this service.
