First you will have difficulty finding a job and if you do the wage will be much less than your use to finding in the US.

To stay in the Philippines for more than a year will require trips out of the country to renew your status. One benefit if you marry your fiancee and you leave the country with her and then return, you can avail yourself of the balikbayan visa. Do a google search for more information.

This topic has been discussed before so do a search in vj and you will get returns showing answers to your questions.

Well, from past posts it seems like you don't have a job or money saved. Moving over there is not really going to help you.

First if you are lucky enough to find some kind of work, you'll be making less in a day than you would an hour at Starbucks.

Second, when you finally decided you don't like living from hand to mouth (whether that's a month or five years form now), your income level will still be too low to qualify for the visa and you'll just have to come back and find work (much like the position you're in now).

Stop, plan, think......before just driving off the cliff

Have you considered a co-sponsor? USEM is not easy on co-sponsors, but it is not impossible either. Give that some thought.

I have communicated with hundreds of Filipino people, mostly ladies on chat before I found Candy. And many of them told me that good jobs in the Philippines are very hard to find. You can get a job making burgers, but you think US companies pay small for that? The $7.25 an hour you get in the US working in McDonald's is Wall Street compared to what you get in Manila for the same work.

If you have enough money to start your own business then you might be OK, but you need to figure on it being self sustaining, and whatever number you come up with for startup capital, double it.

It ain't easy here, especaily if you don't like eating fish and rice three meals a day. The government does not help you out when you're poor like in the US.

Take a step back and plan ahead. Visit for a month, live like a Filipino, then decide. If you can't afford to do that, you need a new plan.

Thanks for that site, GB. Good read. I would find his writing somewhat amusing if the reality wasn't sobering or tragic. I've witnessed too many such mistakes made by friends and loved ones.

Your welcome and I am glad that I could at least shed some light on the subject at hand.
