Submitting forms from USA?

Hi Everyone- I have some questions, and I'm anticipating some of the answers to be, "who knows?!" but I thought I would take a chance and ask anyway.

My fiancé and I applied for a K1 visa in March, but our application is at the TSC, so we're not expecting an approval any time soon. I am moving to California in August (I'm the petitioner) for a graduate program, and my fiancé is coming on a tourist visa July 29 to drive from Boston to Los Angeles with me. He will have to go back to England at some point to complete the K1 visa process, however, we would like to do as much of the paperwork and form submitting as possible from the US. That way, he can go back to England, complete the visa, then come right back to California.

What we're wondering is, exactly how much can we do from the US once the application leaves the NVC? He has many of the items we've seen listed online (his police certificate, medical records, birth certificate, etc.), is there anything else he would need to do for packet 3 and 4 in England? Since the DS160 and the readiness form are both online, would it be possible to submit everything in the US then fly back to England while the interview date and medical appointment are being scheduled?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Yes, he can do that. And he controls the clock (if it is not convenient to leave the US) by not having the medical or submitting the readiness for interview form. There is a pinned thread at the top of the UK forum that will help you understand the before and after NOA2. Read past post 8 because there are some corrections of things that changed slightly.

Great, thank you! I read through this thread- and it is very helpful!

This might be a stretch, but do you have any idea how far out we can expect the interview to be after we submit the readiness for interview form? In some places I've seen people's interviews scheduled for 2-3 weeks after they submit the form, and in other instances I've seen 1-2 months. We don't want to get stuck paying an exorbitant amount on flights, so if his interview might be 1-2 weeks after he submits the readiness form, we might wait to do that until he is in England. Does that made sense?

There is so much information online and I've tried to comb through a lot of it, but if this information is already out there, I apologise!

London needs to have 3 things before they will give out an interview, which you already know if you read the London guide. So just because you submit a readiness form online from the US, does not mean an interview will be given. There will be a period of time he needs to spend in the UK.

He has to be in London to have a medical exam. And until the results reach the embassy (3-4 days later) he won't be qualified for an interview date. Whatever arrives last starts the timing on "how long until I get an interview"?

It changes all the time depending on how busy they get. Maybe 2 weeks for them to assign a date that is 3-4 weeks in the future. Maybe a few days shorter. Maybe weeks longer. Then a week or so to have the visa delivered.

Basic plan-- when he is ready to leave the US

Schedule a medical

Submit the Readiness form. It asks for date attending the medical

Go to London and have the medical.

Wait 4-6 weeks probably before interview day.

Wait 7-10 days for visa.

Travel to US before visa expires.

Perfect, that answers all of my questions. Thank you again!
