MISSED BIOMETRICS APPOINTMENT - My story (and a happy ending)

Hello friends and fellow VJers,

I don't think this predicament has been posted about lately (missing a biometrics appointment), so I thought I'd share my story and what I did to "right the wrong".

I received my notice (I-797C) for my biometrics appointment back in early May, with the biometrics appointment being this week (early June). I filed the notice away, and had it in the back of my mind that my appointment was today, June 6.

Last night I decided I should prepare myself for my appointment today, by pulling out that appointment notice. Much to my utter heartbreak and shock, the appointment was for June 3 -- I had missed my appointment by 3 whole days! Naturally panic set in, especially when I read the following statement on the biometrics appointment notice: "IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR AS SCHEDULED, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED". You can see why one would naturally think everything that was faught for and wanted for so long (Adjustment of Status, immigration, etc) seemed like it was suddenly coming undone. GOOD NEWS -- it didn't.

First thing I did last night was scheduled an InfoPass appointment -- with the earliest date available being June 20th. I did NOT want to risk waiting two whole weeks to hope to get my biometrics taken; so, I drove to my local ASC office (Seattle) hoping and praying that they would still take my biometrics without a current appointment. I took it as a good sign when the receptionist told me they are 'usually pretty good' about fitting biometrics in when not scheduled. I had to attend another queue, and waited about 35 minutes before I was allowed to wait in the biometrics area. Yes, my biometrics were taken today despite having an expired appointment!

So here's the jist of what I did to take care of my forgotten appointment -- good advice in case find yourself in the same unfortunate circumstance as myself:

1. Try not to panic - what's done is done; just work towards finding a solution

2. Immediately book an InfoPass appointment online (https://infopass.uscis.gov/)

3. As soon as possible, go to your local ASC office (https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=LO)

4. BRING YOUR ORIGINAL BIOMETRICS APPOINTMENT LETTER

5. Explain your situation - missed appointment, and nicely ask if you can get your biometrics taken the day you get to your ASC office

6. Remain patient and positive -- remember, being nice and calm will get you further!

I obviously would NOT recommend missing your biometrics appointment -- but, it's also not the end of the world if you do. I've read on other forums on VJ that some people even missed their appointment by a few weeks, and still got their biometrics taken care of.

Hope this helps (or at the very least provides a chuckle for those smarter and paying more attention than I did!)

Ozgirl1981...our received date on NOA-1 is 5/16...NOA-1 notice date-5/19....we didn't receive actual NOA`s until 5/27...your`s are coming shortly!
