Hi everyone - We started talking a little about books in a different thread and were thinking it might be fun to start a book club. We have two possible ways of choosing books - either everyone who wants to gets to take a turn choosing a book - as long as it is one readily available on amazon or another site (so everyone could get it that wants to) or we could make a poll of 5 or so books - most votes wins. I'm willing to put up a seperate yahoo site to use as our "book club". So who's interested?

May 11 '09 - Case Approved 10 yr card in the mail

June - 10 yr card recieved

Feb. 19, 2010 - N-400 Application sent to Phoenix Lockbox

April 3, 2010 - Biometrics

May 17,2010 - Citizenship Test - Minneapolis, MN

July 16, 2010- Retest (writing portion)

October 13, 2010 - Oath Ceremony

Journey Complete!

Sounds good to me, I'm always reading.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

the long lost pillar: belief in angels

she may be fat but she's not 50

found by the crass patrol

"poisoned by a jew" sounds like a Borat song

If you bring up the truth, you're a PSYCHOPATH, life lesson #442.

That sounds like a great idea.

OK so it sounds like we definetely have some interest. Tomorrow I'm going to put up a page on Yahoo so that it's a little removed from here - we can make it private or public - I'll just need to know what others think. Also if anyone has a good book to recommend we start with feel free to let me/us know.! Yea!

Fiction or non-fiction? Travel? Any particular country?

Actually, I don't have one to suggest off hand. I have that list of a few that I posted in the other thread . . .and there are a lot more that I have in the catalog from that publisher.

How would the yahoo group work? I've never been involved in a yahoo group before. Someone mentioned on another thread Diana Abu-Jaber, has anyone else read her books? I'd be interested to hear what they are like.

Interested.

Not sure about my time but I'm always reading something, why not something we all read together.

:)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

I haven't read any Diana Abu-jabar and was thinking it might be a good starting place too.

I have another list of books published thru the American University of Cairo that I need to find around here.

Oh, one other book that I started and didn't quite finish yet, but am finding it a good read - "Reading Lolita in Tehran" . . . about a woman who is teaching at a Univeristy inTehran and the problems that people, particularly women, started to have when they changed towards a more conservative govt when the Ayatollah took over (after the fall of the Shah . .. lots of things happened). She started a reading club for some of her students in her home where they read and discussed western books.
