Without getting into the debate over whether helping after the birth is 'work', stating that the purpose of the visit is to help out with a newborn is a good way to get a B2 visa denied. Visiting to meet the new grandchild is a short-term proposition. Helping out can be a longer-term proposition and grannies can develop attachments. It can easily turn into overstay or no return situation - something a consular officer may not want to risk, especially in countries that have a problem with visitors not returning.

I agree with Boiler that an I-134 may be helpful if granny does not have adequate financial resources to fund her proposed visit.

Yodrak

She can apply for a Visitors visa, but that does not allow her to help you. She would ned a work visa for that and there is no realistic chance of getting one.

She applies for a Visa at the local Consulate, see the web site for particulars. Look for B2.

The I-134 can be helpful if she can not show sufficent funds to support her vist, much better if she uses her own assets.

I came in USA 6 months ago and now iam pregnant and My husband and I are planning to get my mum a vistor visa for 2 months so she can come in my delivery and help me after that......

I think I didn't declare my point and i think it was my mistake ..I didn't want my mum to come to raise my child or take care of it ..iam already not working and staying at home to take care of my baby ...I wanted my to visit me just for even one month to be there when her first granddaughter is being born and to see my house too and see USA and Me and my husband was planning to go back to my country 2 months ago but I got pregnant which made my visit delayed for at least a year from now ..so I thought I can bring my mum to visit me and see my first baby ..But I didn't want to come to raise my baby or tajke care of it because I am already not working and I don't need someone to babysit my child..

I am happy i have gone through this discussion because that made me realize that if i said to the consular i need my mum to help me they would think what Yodark exactly said..I never thought they think this way ..I am really grateful I posted that here ..

Thank you very much

How you phrase things is so very important...... The process is difficult enough and you do not want to give them a "freebie" reason to deny.

Stress that in your invitation letter.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You have heard of mothers being refused B2 but the bottom line is her mother doesn't even have to apply for B2 visa.

Of course not, but there was no mention of any other visa that her, I assume Egyptian, mother would have a prayer of getting.

Babysitting is a paid job only if it is PAID.

Nope

Try entering on a Visitor Visa, or VWP, and state the purpose of your visit is to do unpaid babysitting or pretty much any other job and see what happens.

The only exception I am aware of if it is something that is not paid, some volunteering position that a USC or Resident would not be paid.

Plz do not feed the troll.

Salwa, all she has to do upon entry is say she's here to see her daughter give birth for the first time and that should be that.

Lemme know how that goes, Aicha wants her mom here for the same reason.
