  1. 1. The Canadians have laid siege to one of their own cities. Residents have been turned into prisoners. How do you feel about this?

    • Sounds like Boston, 2013. Liberty is dead.

    • Good. The State is supreme and the supremacy of the supreme must not be allowed to be brought into question.

MONCTON, N.B. — An RCMP manhunt for a gunman suspected of killing three Mounties and wounding two others continued today in Moncton as a large section of the New Brunswick city was under virtual siege.

Heavily armed RCMP officers patrolled the city in the search for 24-year-old Justin Bourque, a Moncton man who was wearing military camouflage in a picture of him released by police on Twitter. Police said he was carrying two military-style rifles with high capacity magazines, a bow and a knife.

The two injured officers were being treated for wounds that the RCMP described as non life-threatening.

The RCMP released a map of a large portion of the northwest section of the city, including a heavily wooded area, where they wanted people to remain inside with their doors locked.

They warned people to expect roadblocks and traffic disruptions.

Schools and government offices were closed, and the city pulled its buses off the roads.

I wonder how much of an impact all the extremist views that are out there and easily available via the internet are having on those who feel compelled to use violence as a political statement?

Could be part of the reason why we have so many of these instances in the past 20 years. I don't remember them being so common pre-internet.

I thought guns were illegal in Canada? Or was that Australia? Or Great Britain? I keep getting the major English speaking countries mixed up.

Not illegal, but tighter control than the US. Canada's annual gun homicides are miniscule, they average less than 200 per year.

Wow.. Yemen is the #2 country in the world for the number of guns at 11,500,000... The US is #1 at 270,000,000 ...

Canada is #13 at 9,950,000 guns.. With 173 gun murders per year that is 1 murder per 57,514 guns

The US is at 270,000,000 guns... With 9,146 gun murders per year that is 1 murder per 29,521 guns

Hmmm the conclusion seems obvious: Canadians are lousy shots.

As far as the comments on the increased violence due to the internet.. The Gun homicide rate in the US peaked in 1993/1994 has has been trending down since..

True, but I believe Steven's statement was in regards to how much of an impact the internet has on these extremists in their decision to act out, not on the overall gun homicide rate.

The amount of guns in the US is insane compared to other similar countries.
