Wait another week and then visit your local SSA office.

YMMV

If you came on a K1, no one is sending you a SSN and the officer at the POE was mistaken. You have to apply for it at your local SSN office.

The wait two weeks advice is given to allow time for the information to be passed from the POE to the SSA and to be entered into their system. If it's not entered, you have to come back again.

Not an urban legend as many have tried and failed. It is all dependent when the information transfer and database update occurs. Since no one really knows when that happens that is why the two week wait is suggested. Obviously you were a fortunate one.

YMMV

  • 8 months later...

I waited until Claudeth had been here about two weeks and then took her to the social security office.

It took about a week for her card to arrive in the mail.
