Hello all.

I'm due to fly next week to Chicago O'Hare from London Heathrow.

Tips and advice would be greatly appreciated as I've never flown there before.

How's the immigration Que.?

If you look at the menu bar and click POE, you can choose O'Hare from the drop down and read lots of experiences.

O'Hare is great (although I'm biased as it's our home airport). My husband flew into it several times alone, and always got through immigration pretty quickly. There are 2 exits out of T5 (international terminal), and there are signs that tell those waiting which flights will come out of which exit (the exits are also next to each other, so don't stress too much).

There is a waiting area outside of the exits, so it should be pretty easy to find someone, even without cell phones.

When my husband came through with his K1, he just went through the normal process - they didn't pull him into any side room or anything for processing. Very quick and easy. He's always had an easy time going through.

It of course depends on when you land as to the immigration queue. They stagger the flights pretty well, but if your flight gets delayed, you may end up arriving at the same time as some of the other trans-ocean flights, and that can cause a backlog. But they're usually pretty well staffed and pretty easy.

O'Hare is where I've always flown into :). It is a pretty large airport and can get pretty busy, but I think the longest I stood in a line was around an hour. The Border Patrol staff can come across as a little stern but definitely helpful. I did have an issue when I entered with my K1 visa - the officer forgot to press an enter button and so I did not get my I-94 # until my husband and I had spent 4 hours trying to get through on the phone (we were told originally we'd have to drive for 4 hours to go to O'Hare in person to sort it out but that's a whole other story). My advice is just confirm that they've entered you in manually and taken your brown embassy package.

It's also a little expensive to get food there though so bring a few extra dollars for snacks/a meal.
