Renewing Passport

Hi!

We booked tickets overseas for late August. The tickets were booked in my married name and my passport is still in my maiden name. The airline we booked with said the easiest thing is to update my passport ( I know, I should have done it earlier). I could mail it from the US and it should be back before the end of August. But we were going to visit my family in Ontario over the July long weekend and I need my passport to get into Canada.

1. Can I apply from the Passport office closest to my family and pay the expedited 24 hour fee? Since I have a flight back to the US on the Monday following?

2. Does 24 hours mean next day? People have told me different things. If I go in first thing Thursday would it be ready Friday?

3. If not, can I bring it in, have it mail to my parents and enter the US with my nexus and GC?

After doing more research I am going to renew it while I am in Canada. Does anyone know if references have to be Canadian? Also what have others done for a guarantor? I was thinking about sending all my stuff to my old doctor in Canada... but wanted to see what others have done.

As long as you know someone who has a valid or less than 1 year old passport who has known you for 2+ years, they can be your guarantor. You don't need to have a professional anymore.
