Why is it an illusion?

Because its not happening. Crime is lower than ever.

What's up is the amount of crime coverage and the amount of elderly people in this country. Every generation ever thinks the next generation has "gone to hell" because things aren't like they were "back in my day"

Its an illusion. Things are getting better.

Well, thanks for the enlightenment. I will be sure to look at this closely. :)

I'm sorry, there is no place for optimism in Current Events. Things are bad and getting worse because of Obama and Hillary. And they will get even worse with the next President. I'm seeing a pattern here.

I just looked over at your member title "VJ Elite Liberal" and remembered the thread that originated. Ohhhhh, that was delightful. And in site discussion now less.

The word growing up in Detroit was never buy a car that was assembled on a Monday. Too many folks hungover from the weekend. That was in the 70s and 80s though. Since they don't make many cars in the U.S. anymore not sure what the word is now.

The US peak for vehicle production was 1999 at just over 13 million.. in 2010 it was 7.7 million (there was a sharp drop after 2007).. Since then it has picked up and was over 11 million in 2013.. 2014 is expected to be the 5th straight year of increased sales (only the second time in the history of car sales that has happened). Don't be such a downer.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Yep, being in automotive right now is pretty sweet. Tons and tons of demand. We literally cannot keep up.

Do you remember what thread or who it was that called me "one of the VJ elite" and also said "and you're probably a liberal too." I almost choked I was laughing so hard.

It was in site discussion but I don't recall which one.

Its the combination of it and a formerly used descriptor of mentally handicapped folks.

I guess I look at it through the lens of living in Detroit. I'd bet they're not making too many cars there.

Yeah I was called a liberal as well. Probably the same thread.

I imagine Detroit looks like a wasteland in many areas.. Chrysler has the only remaining plant entirely within city limits.. Though a tad ironically that one plant has tripled it workforce in the past few years and is considered one of the most modern plants in the world.. It generated 2 billion in profits on its own last year. Bully for Fiat.

There are a few GM and Ford plants in the general area but nothing within the city limits.

I am curious what will happen in China with the new laws allowing more foreign ownership - the US and Japaneses car-makers are already making big strides.. The gloom and doom Chinese car-makers are predicting seem a bit weird coming fromm that side of the ocean.

Unions killed Detroit .

It was many factors. Unions were definitely a major factor though.
