I'll be taking a Army Burgen full of clothes and a few bits and bats of paperwork, travelling light especially compared to the person taking a 40ft container.

I'm taking one car, 4 motorbikes, all my tools (I'm an engineer), furniture, electronics, computers, heirlooms etc etc.

Hence the container.

My fiancé brought 23 boxes of cr@p. I told home to bring whatever would make him happy. They are still not all unloaded, but he's happy because If anybody needs any obscure part for a computer, or a cable, or any version of DOS or Windows, he can produce it. Hahaha.

He rented a furnished bungalow from his Mum after his divorce, so most of the furnishings stayed with the house.

Sold- 2 cars, big screen TV.

Gave to friends, boss, Mum, sister-

big desk, Tassimo coffee machine, new toaster, printer/copier/scanner/fax, some tools, various things that plug in.

Brought--

All his music CDs, vinyl, and favorite books

3 laptops

The insides of his desktop PC which he re-built in a US case with power supply by sundown on POE day.

Quite a few tools

A family heirloom antique wall clock

Some old coins that were his Dad's

Some childhood memorabilia that had meaning to him.

Clothes

A little paperwork

A few mobile phones.

All those computer geek things

1600 teabags

I can't think of anything he has wished he had brought, but didn't.

Suggestion: Don't give away your life. So what if it costs money? You'll earn it back. Maybe that's why he transitioned so well, because he had his familiar junk with him.

Now five years later, our household has about 10 desktops, 6 laptops, iPads, various players...I think there was breeding going on in those boxes.

I shipped 4 boxes. One held my beloved PC. I left so much on the other side of the Atlantic. Wish I could have brought all my stuff.

Thank you, goodnight and may your gods go with you",

Dave Allen.

Just saw your Terry Pratchett quote. Among the favorite books he brought was 45-50 Terry Pratchett books. One was signed by Terry at the Hay Festival. They had tea together...private one on one with his favorite author.

It's roughly £2500 door to port and it's all inclusive(except insurance). You can get cheaper and more expensive but as always, cheap isn't always the best way to go.

We are loading my stuff directly into the container at the storage facility where it's stored and I am picking it up from the docks in Houston.

If you need any specifics, just ask.

That is pretty handy and not astronomically expensive.

We sold all of our electronics or gave some away. Sold the car, sold the furniture, things for the garden. Brought over with us, all important paperwork, keepsakes, pictures, clothing, some of hubby's tools which were handed down to him from his Dad, and a couple of fishing reels, CD's, but not DVD's, and some of our bedding (duvets and duvet covers mostly). And since we were both moving together and actually moving one house...we also brought back some of our good pots and pans, dishes and glasses.

Most of my clothes are already with hubby, everytime I've visited I've left some behind, I have very little left here, fine for winter clothes but summer, if we ever have one, is gonna be difficult!

Other than that I'll just mainly be whatever clothes/shoes I have left here, a a few cds (I loaded a lot of them onto my laptop and Music Magpie'd them), a few DVDs (Music Magpie'd/sold privately the rest), any important paperwork I might need (I guess medical/dental records), and just some memories of home photos etc. I'm living with my parents so don't have any furniture to get rid of.

My dad loaned me the money to pay off my car finance in January (I had it on a lease to buy option) and I will sell it either back to the garage where I got it from or to webuyanycar (other brands are available) and pay my dad back what's left on the loan.

The car. You should have brought it with you. Stopped paying the lease and see how for the finance company would go to get it back. :)

Sold my house, car and motorbike (sob), had a garage sale and made £550 selling loads of ####### like 1/2 tin of WD40, people will buy any junk so well worth doing.

Brought my bed, rowing machine, clothes DVDs etc.

One thing to bear in mind if you have DVD's is that most laptops have a disc drive and you can still play them on that and use an HDMI lead to play through the telly so think before you ditch them or give them away.

You can also get multi-region dvd players for about 100 bucks :-)

You can also hack some DVD players to make them multi- region. Sony and JVC probably not.
