Hi all! I'm new to this site, though I've been following it for months. My Rwandan fiance's K1 visa packet has reached the Nairobi embassy (Rwanda doesn't process K1 visas) and I would like to schedule his Nairobi interview as soon as possible. The problem is that the online system requires us to pay for the visa and enter a receipt number before scheduling the interview.

The website (https://usvisa-info.com/en-ke/selfservice/us_fee_payment_options) states:

Using this Web site:

  • Cash or Mobile Phone Payment
    1. Please log into the Web site using the applicant's passport number, date of birth and nationality.
    2. Follow the Web page instructions to select applicant's trip purpose, preferred Consulate to schedule an appointment, and other pertinent details related to the visa application.
    3. While following the steps on the Web site, the applicant will be asked to either make a payment or to confirm the payment has already been made by using a "MRV Fee Receipt Number."
    4. Payment can be made using the following options:
        1. Please select Cash.
        2. Click on the "PDF" link next to the "MRV Fee Receipt Number" box.
        3. Print the electronic generated deposit slip for each applicant.
        4. Complete the relevant information.
        5. Take the deposit slip(s) to the bank and pay.
        6. The "MRV Fee Receipt Number" is located at the top of the deposit slip .
          • Note: Each applicant requires a separate "Receipt Number."
        7. Return to this Web site and enter the "MRV Fee Receipt Number" when asked to provide it.
        1. Select Mobile payment.
        2. Click on the “PDF” line next to the "MRV Fee Receipt Number" box.
        3. Use the Mobile Pay Deposit Slip PDF to pay your MRV fee. Step-by-step instructions with screenshots are included.
        4. Enter the MRV Fee Receipt Number into the field provided on the MRV Fee Receipt page and click "Submit".
        5. The next page will open to the appointment calendar.

The problem is that he is Rwandan and can't just travel to Nairobi to wait for this payment to go through without scheduling the interview. We can't just wait there for who knows how long! What have others done in this situation? I know that Nairobi also processes Uganda and I think Sudan. Help!!

Yea, this is a real PITA. Pretty much the payment has to be made from inside Kenya - so someone has to be there.

Best option is to know someone who is there who can do it for you.

Otherwise you will have to travel there first, make the payment, and then get the appointment, medical exam, etc... Fortunately, there are appointments that open up every day - so you shouldn't have to wait for a long time to get it.....

I have no idea why we they choose to not accept payments on-line - especially given Nairobi's role serving so many countries in Africa - I suspect it prevents some sort of fraud or trafficking or something, but I don't know quite what. It sure makes things much more difficult for the rest of us honest folks.

Hi, my name is Cecilia and I agree with you that it has always been a nightmare for applicants coming out of town-Uganda, Rwanda, Mauritius, processing their visas in Nairobi. I have worked as an Immigrant Visa assistant at the Embassy in Nairobi (am no working there now) and would be glad to assist your fiance in his processing in nairobi from airport picking and dropping, getting accomodation for him, taking him to IOM/embassy on his appointment date to the very end of the process. currently the K1 appointments in nairobi are being scheduled in September so is advisable that you make your booking early before the green card lottery end of program rush in September. You can reach me on my email cwanguig@yahoo.com if you need any assistance.

Hi Naomarie4,

I don't know if Nairobi rans a different system from another country because, usually what happen is that the beneficiary or petitioner picks up the package from the embassy. The package contains the appointment date for the beneficiary and other information as to what to bring to the interview. These are birth certificate, police certificate, med report etc.

Secondly, again i don't know if Nairobi rans a different system because at Immigrant Visa like the K - Visas are paid at the embassy.
