Zubara Fort - Situated just 100 km west of Doha lies the town of Al Zubara, an important archeological site famous for its old fort. This fort-turned-museum was constructed in 1938 during the reign of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani and was erected on the ruins of a neighbouring fort.

Mosque of Ibn Tulun. It was being rennovated the last time I was there. I wonder if they've finished

Rahma, I went to Ibn Tulun last March after going to visit the Gayer-Anderson Museum . . . which is literally next door. I didn't see any signs of renovation going and I got to climb the minaret (for an extra fee, hehe). I have bunches of pix up on the buzznet site, but it is soooooooooo slow and I quit putting up pix there. But let me try one now . . . . View Thru Ibn Tulun . . . well it won't post the whole pic, so you can check the link. Once you go there you can browse thru tons of pix that I have taken on my different trips to Egypt!

Then, again, I posted some of these on my new Picasa Web Gallery . . . might be faster to see the whole album: Collage of Egypt 2005 I made some collages of the photos at one point then I uploaded them.

This is a link for the album for my trip to Luxor in 2005: Luxor2005

look, i understand that. you can even leave the pictures up. but look at her titles! "kristalnacht!???" youre going to tell me that titling a picture of palestinian territory with a name from a ww2 jewish masacre is not political?

i was wondering if anyone else caught that. a :star: for you!

for those not aware of what kristalnacht is, i suggest you look it up. it ranks way up the scale on the atrocities committed againt the jews in germany. and germany still remembers that night.

I'm sooo blonde. DUH. I was crying most of the afternoon and called Usama and ended up lying down for an hour or so with a wonderfully smelly turtleneck that he gave me that he hadn't washed for a few days. Totally smells like him.

Anyhoo i was like ####### triggered this feeling that my heart is being pulled until it's paper thin.......I was doing soooooooooooo good for the past few days.

Well duh...it's this thread and specifically the picture of Giza with the pyramids. I remember standing just to the left of that picture waiting for one of those minivan things to take us back to our flat. :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

Anyways have fun with this 'cause I can't view it anymore, even though it's all beautiful.

And if anyone has a problem with the pics..you have a choice to get the heck outta dodge and stop viewing the freakin' thread. Geesh.

LOL, doodle, I know what you mean!!! I took a stuffed lion (small one, like a teddybear, ya know . . . he's a LEO, hehe ) to Egypt with me when I got married and the hubster played with it all the time. It did smell like him when I got back . . . didn't last long enough and I forgot to take it back on my last trip. Funny thing . . . one day a few weeks ago I was talking to him on the phone and all of a sudden I had this sensory experience . . . I could smell him . . . sooooooooooo strange!!!

Hang in there!!!!

You guys thank you for this beautiful thread. I have learned so much about the MENA area just from these pictures! For the first time I kind of even want to go there!

Yes naming the pic Kristallnacht was not in the best taste IMO, but let's just ignore it so everyone can see the beauty (and sometimes beauty is not a landscape or a piece of architecture) of this region for better or for worse.

im not saying her pictures arents truthful, im just saying they are political. you can always choose what to post.

i choose to show israels beauty, not its faults, which is def has. why cant WOM also choose to show ramallahs beauty? i know its there.

i agree with the last post. would you respond this way if i had shown israeli victems first? shes showing one side, does that mean i should show the other so we can fight about it?

i was simply asking her to be respectful. show your beauty, not the hatred for the other side

How is she not being respectful!!!!! Just because you don't agree with her photos, there are many that do. These photos show the only reality that is left for Palestine. You have a choice of which photos to show for Israel. You can show photos of damaged buildings from bombings as can I in Jordan, but the difference is we have alot more beauty to show. This is all that is left for them, do you not get that?

I think the beauty of a place lies in the reality of it- that includes the postives and the negatives. WOM is only expressing this.

Alex, the naming of the pic refers to the period known as Kristallnacht in Ramallah. It was a dark and terrible time for those people. It is a political name for sure, but I suspect if you read of the horrors of the kristallnacht in Ramallah in 2002 and how the word stood by like they did in Germany of the 1930s. it will make some sense (even if you disagree with the use of such a term).
