Were they the flying cockroaches aka sorsar? They are a big problem where Moh lives. They LOVE the bathroom at the house. My poor husband had to go with me to the bathroom cuz I was terrified.

I had to chuckle when I read this! The first time I was in Egypt I went in the bathroom at night (minus contacts or glasses), sit on the pot and heard this terrible noise over by the sink and this large thing go across the floor. I scream thinking it's a mouse. Then I go over and try to peak where I thought this mouse was. There was this cockroach from he$$ staring and me and I swear to God it tried to attack me! I went running out of the bathroom screaming! Khallid says "what did you see a crotch?" (notice what he actually said?) That just cracked me up, but he did have to take me to the bathroom for the next couple of days.

Not to derail the pic thread but holy moses!! My fiance already knows that I won't stay anywhere with roaches and I keep reading here on VJ about how everyone saw roaches everywhere!!! :o:wacko:

He says they have this special powder that they put in their drains that keep them out of their house, but it sounds like they are on the streets and in restaurants and... all over!!! God help me I don't know how I'll deal with it.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Well for what it's worth, Usama's flat didn't have any. He keeps it very very clean and it's not in the area of the flying ones so maybe that's why. Who knows. He's kind of ####### about bugs in general. The ones we had were in the flat he rented out in Nasr City. If he says there aren't any in his place then believe him. ;) You'll be fine. I hate bugs with a passion but to be honest I could have been in a tent in the middle of the desert with him with scorpions surrounding it and I would have been happy.

Well, you have a point. Maybe I'll be too happy to notice. :)

I just want to make sure he checks out the places we'll be renting *really* well before he decides on them. :D

Hahahaha...that's cute, Amy. Roaches in Egypt are HUGE. They are about the size of a small mouse. I went to the toilet alone one time because I had to do something other than pee ;) I finished, got up and spotted the hugest roach up on the wall behind the toilet. I screamed and made Moh come in to kill it. The damn thing flew in his face!!! He got it though :)

Hahahaha about the sarsur. But the ones we have in Texas are just as horrifying.

"Sarsur" is actually a common surname (or is it sarsurname ? ) in the West Bank.... they sure have some "interesting" family names there. Can you imagine going through life as Ahmed Cockroach ?

Yep, *sorsar* is what they call it in Egypt, too. Hate the sorsar!!!

Yes.... I saw you mention it in the earlier post.... that's what made me remember the family with that name.

LOL you and your Egyptian accent :P.... you probably say "gameel," too.
