Question about name in passport/visa and SSN

So I had applied for a social security while on my K1 visa as I was required to get one for my marriage license. When I had applied, the lady at the social security office said that I was legally known in the US with only one of my two given names, my middle name(which is my mother's maiden name) and my last name as per my I-94 from immigration. The lady said that it could take up to a month to a month and a half for them to sort it all out and get my name properly adjusted through the immigration, then they would be able to issue my SSN. But I decided that I could just go with that for now and change it another time. What I want to know is that will having my full first name, middle name and last name on my passport and visa and only one of my first names, middle name, and last name on my SSN(now that I have it in hand) be a problem? Thanks so much!

Did I read it right that you have an error with your name on your I-94? If so, you need to contact a Deferred Inspection site to have this corrected: http://www.cbp.gov/c...rred-inspection

There is a downloadable excel file when you click on "70 Deferred Inspections Sites", and from there, locate the one nearest your location. They may have it corrected by phone or you may have to schedule an appointment with them to have the correction done.

Your SS card should have an identical info / name as your passport and visa. You need to return to SSA to have your SSN application corrected after you had your I-94 sorted out.

Btw, SSN is not mandatory in applying for a marriage license. The county or state website might have listed it as a requirement, but when you call them (the county clerk in charge of issuing marriage licenses) and tell them you want to marry but don't have one; they'll tell you it isn't required.

SSN is not an ID card and won't matter if it does not match your passport or visa. It would not match those if you married first and got your SSN in your married name to begin with. When you get your EAD/AP or green card in your correct married name, then go get the SSN updated with your current legal name.

As sweet cakes said, get the I-94 corrected if it has an error on it.

Okay, thanks for the responses and sorry for the late reply. Actually I'm a guy, and I'm not taking my wife's last name, so the EAD/AP adjustment for my name is out. I'll go and try to contact the nearest DI place near me and get this all sorted out and what not.
