Man... if you guys think that I'm a cheap gringo, dig this from my pal (another gringo married to an Ecuatoriana), see man:

"The alternator on the T-mobile failed again so I had T. buy a rebuilt alternator for $120 and had her install it herself. Trying to explain how to do it over the phone was one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever encountered. I had to explain which way to turn the wrench/ratchet and explain how to reverse the direction on a ratchet. She almost didn't have enough strength to unloosen several bolts. Finally after 3 hours of hard work, she got the job done. She was totally exhausted from doing the work and is feeling pretty sore today. The car works good now."

He's probably upset that they had to spend $Many for an entire alternator, rather than pull the old one apart, try to figure out which component was bad, then go junkyard-hopping to find the correct replacement, cheap man.

I'm out of sorts because I just realized that I have to make my lunches for the next 2 days. The maid has left, sigh man. And Mrs. T-B. spends $Many at the wrong supermarket and didn't even buy cheaps, no man!

there are other critters - i'll posit some foreigners moved in this decade and you can get alpaca, camel, guinea pig, moose, and maybe even llama jerky locally.

so my MIL saw my serger in the sewing room when she came over for dinner and wants one now, since i said i personally can't imagine sewing without one. trouble is, i don't know how to tell her that she really doesn't need a serger for the kind of sewing she does (quilting, some basic mends and alterations) without offending her. the more i try to explain, the more i sound like i'm being a debbie downer. i've tried asking her to come to a lesson at the dealer's with me first, and also to try out some other models that are easier to thread, but i think she's got her heart set on it. i hope she doesn't spend the money then regret it and blame me.
