technically I help set up the store the way corporate wants it to look. We're doing the grocery section right now, which is why we're overnight vs regular hours. It's just too busy to help people and actually get the work done at the same time if we don't do it overnight. We tend to big sets like this. Electronics, back to school, christmas, cosmetics, grocery... everything else is day time.

it's really not. It's harder when you have to design the presentation yourself, which I did a bunch at my last job. They give you something called a "planogram" which is essentially a map of where everything should go and you set it up according to that. It's just frustrating during the day when you have to back up on the till, (which apparently is a British thing to say?) help guests find whatever they're looking for, plus do your own work. I have to pull my own stuff out of the back and fill it up on the shelves. Plus I have to check on hands once I'm done. Sometimes 6 hours of a plano takes me all day because of all the time you spend away helping everyone else.

Really everyone should have to work in retail. Just to know how hard the people in the industry actually have to work. Most of which is cleaning up after ungrateful people who just assume that T shirts magically pile themselves nicely on a table or that our job in a department store is only to clean up after you. I'm not a maid. I'd likely get paid more if I was. LOL

i absolutely hate night shifts. You get a lot done, compared to during the day, but it screws your brain up.
