What is your fault? That he ran outta beer? Yes, it is......

no not beer,

yes of course I see the difference. My husband has no life to speak of and lives in his parents house hence....all I got is joint bank account, joint filing for taxes, pics, life insurance, people who would vouch for us and hotel reservations listing both of us on our trip to NYC but once I move and he joins me...we will have health insurance thru me, life insurance from my side, joint lease and eventually joint car....so I don't think it is that terrible.

just for the record...our marriage is going downhill and he is in no shape or form able to provide for us or be a husband or even an adult responsible for things - lack of confidence, fear...whatever but we did do things as any other married couple would have...with co-mingling whatever there was to co-mingle, we went to family events together, went to NYC together and all kinds of things. Nobody here in the family doubts we are/were in love....that we are in trouble...nobody doubts that either.

Just about everything you have to do a joint petition will work with a divorce petition. Just keep collecting things, if he moves in November that would be a big step for him and I would think maybe counseling for him to help with his fears would be good to start with then also.

what did that no good fer nuttin Stretch do to piss of the Hillbilly now......

He said something to me, lack of sleep has me very sensitive and I wanted to be left alone to calm down. He then goes off like he's the injured party. The rest well is probably a TOS violation and I hate to have to make t-bone clean it up :P

It baffles me that we have to go through all the kerfluffle of the i-130 and the cr-1 and then are expected to prove to them that we're a legit relationship...in America.

F*uck you, immigration.

Nola, I don't even have half that stuff. We have a joint account, cards, photos, and #######...but nothing else. They wouldn't let him be listed on our title when we bought the house. I had to put his car in my name because he had no credit (duhhhhh). Sh*t, I still have a PA driver's license and I'm not planning on changing until I CHANGE MY LAST NAME...and I can't do that anytime soon because lol who has $350 to blow on court fees to change a name?

Wow.

Not how I anticipated this night ending.

Please ignore me.

Literally, not even the word c-r-a-p slides by anymore?

Maybe I used the work ####### too much?

My husband isn't on our house title, very intentionally, and it was sort of accident he ended up on the car title, because he isn't supposed to get that car per our post-nup.

Are you supposed to change your DL before 60 days in MN? Why does it cost 350 to change your name? New SS card = free, DL change was 40 or 50 bucks for a reissue and when you change states per MN law, you just have to bring your marriage certificate with you and they'll issue your new license in your new name even if the old one wasn't. I had to look this up because my DL is in my married name, but my passport (primary doc) is in my maiden.

Long story short, I got bad information on VJ back in da day (well, mis-information, I should say) when I asked about changing names after marriage. Was told I shouldn't change mine because it might screw up the processing and slow things down. So on our license, it says 'Lucas', when it should say 'Allsopp'. I found this out when I went to get my new SS card.

So, the process is: go to court, pay ridic amount of moneys, cry about how I just want to ditch my last name, and then go through all this nonsense again.

I just changed my plates/tabs when I moved. I'm sure I am supposed to get a new license, but lol @ Minnesota thinking I'm the one who needs to take the written test again just to switch from an out of state id. Not changing it until I either get my name changed or my current one expires.

PS- I hate bureaucratic bullshite.

So, wait, there is a spot on your marriage license that says whether you want to change your last name or not? /confused. I never had that with either of mine. As a married lady you can go by either without a court order as far as I am aware. I also didn't change mine on my SS card until after we came to America, so 7 months after we got married? It was no problem.

You don't need to go to court even after all this time, your marriage license will still work. Taking your husband last name is not a true name change like going to court, going to court will change the last name you were born with. You will forever lose you birth name and you would get a amended birth certificate showing the new last name.

Yeah, changing your name on your birth certificate is a whole 'nother matter, which is what a court ordered name change is for.

heck on my Social in Canada I never did change it to my ex's last name. If you go with just using your marriage license you can resume your maiden name if something were ever to happen. Court name change you're stuck with it, unless you go back to court.

On the document it says "name after marriage" and in that spot I put Lucas instead of his name. When I went to ssa they told me I would have to go to court to get it changed. Does that sound wrong? I'll pull up the license and look but they were pretty adamant about me not being able to change it without going to court.

Yeah I just looked and it says that Lucas is my legal name after marriage. Have to contact court administration. Cary ate you a lawyer?

Ooops, well that blows. Actually, there was something similar in the system in Denmark for me, but it didn't print out. I guess because I wasn't a Danish citizen, I didn't have the right to change my last name or some other such nonsense. Fine by me, because my EU last name is going to stay in my maiden (have you heard of the passport backlog in the UK right now?).

Dang that sucks!

So you're needing to change the certificate not really doing the full name change their has to be a better way

jeezus Nola.. if that's everything you need for approval, I guess i'm going back to Canada. Heck they didn't even do the lease properly here, it doesn't have my name on it but has my friggin signature.

Be aware though, Novembro, that the ticket in MN for not changing that license is $178.

Nah, I don't think you need that much, that is just what we've collected in our ordinary course of business. We just have a little extra, especially in terms of the wills, to ensure that if both of us die, that my daughter gets everything (an issue before we do the adoption). I would come back from the grave and strangle someone if my sister in law got any of our money.

Ok I'm looking into disability for my daughter, I had it for her as a child in Canada but now she is 19 I need to look into it for her again.

She's a USC btw I just can't figure out one I need to be investigating, any ideas?

I will probably get a lawyer for this too.
