Thanks Harpa and Nobbie. We actually went to social security two months ago to apply but was declined because we were already married at that time(we didnt know yet that we should have applied prior to marriage). The reason why I asked "when is the best time to apply" is because the lady from social security told us to come back 10 days after receipt of EAD.. Just want to get inputs from anybody who had the same experience. Thanks again.

If you have the EAD in hand you can go anytime, If not, wait for it to arrive. This takes the place of your (I assume) now expired I-94. Also, be sure the app is done in your married name! Just saying...

This is how it works and why you were turned away. You apply prior to marriage, in your maiden name with a current I-94. If not and after the I-94 expires, you have to wait for either the EAD card, EAD/AP combo card or Green Card, then apply in your married name.
