Process for importation of pet dog from China to USA

My Chinese fiancee received her P4 and her interview date of February 8th. She has a pet pomeranian dog and wants to bring it with her to the US when she comes next month. I have been searching for the rules and regulations covering this but have been unsuccessful to this point. Any assistance in pointing me in the right direction will be most appreciated!

I was living in Asia..and brought my dog over to the USA via Thai airways. They have the best price - $170 per 25kgs per leg. ( ie. china to BKK $170- BKK to USA $170) and were the only airline to have a pet cargo area in their smaller planes. They required a recent health certificate stating that the dog was free of signs of disease prior to travel, and evidence of rabies vaccination. My travel agent notified the airline regarding the dog, and gave me a serparate " ticket" . I paid at the counter while checking in.

edited to add: check if China requires any documentation for the dog to " leave" the country, This has nothing to do with the airline. I had to get a certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture saying that the dog was healthy and free to go for him to get into the airport.!
