I'm waiting for NOA2 atm, and starting to get prepared for the medical exam (e.g. finding out what vaccinations I need), and checking that I'll pass even though I have a serious medical condition.

I noticed that one of the 'Class A' conditions that get you barred from entry is "drug abuse or addiction". I would barely know what an illegal drug looked like if someone handed me a huge bag of it, and have never been addicted to anything; not even caffeine or cigarettes like a normal person. ;)

BUT as part of my medical treatment, my doctors prescribe me strong medical opiates, and have for some years. My medical condition has progressed to a stage that's inoperable, and all they can do is try to control it with medications, and then give me paid meds to make it tolerable. (It's not fatal and I have money for my medical treatment over there, so that's all good.)

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience of how the medical examiners treat long-term medical opiate use for a medical condition where pain meds are part of the usual treatment protocol? Specifically, do they make a clear distinction between that and "drug abuse or addiction"? Or is there a chance they'll say, "You've taken opiates almost-daily for how many years?!? We don't want your kind in America!"

Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

Even in the US opiates can be given by a doctor. Just make sure you have documentation from your regular doctor about your condition and your need for the medication

My medical records file is massive, so no problems giving them documentation of what medications I take, what they're for, and which highly-trained specialist prescribed them. ;)
