Hi all! First time posting here and like everyone who has started this process... is overwhelmed. I'm going to try to keep this short but you have any questions, just let me know.

I met my Canadian SO a few months ago at my brother's wedding (they are very good friends) and after a few times visiting each other, we've decided to go down this path! So the longtime goal is for him to spousal sponsorship me to Canada - however, that will not be possible for at least another year (probably more). My SO has the capability to work remotely and is currently getting ready to come stay with me for a few months - very excited!

All in all we've gone through the entire visa frustration about which one is going to work out best and after talking with several POE officers, his HR department and his superiors, we are going to go ahead with just the visitor status until that expires (6 months). His company will be opening a smaller "branch" in Minneapolis so that he will be able to work here after the 6 months is up... Soooo my questions is...

With him staying here for 6 months (without a visa) - are there are regulations on if he can come back and stay in the US for longer than 6 months if he's on a L1 or TN visa? (6 months with visiting status and then if we still need time... would he be able to come stay for a few additional months with a visa?)

Any advice or insight would be most welcome! Thank you in advance : )

The person to talk to would be his Employers Immigration Lawyers.

Working remotely on a visitor visa is a grey area.

If he gets a L1 or a TN it is unrelated to his 6 months of visiting. Don't overstay the 6 months or getting another visa will be more difficult.

Thank you, that is very helpful - kind of what I was thinking but still...... Hearing it from someone else does help.

(His company is talking to the lawyers actually at the moment and it is definitely a gray area, which is one reason that it's been so frustrating)

Thank you again!!!
