Travelling to the US on a K1 visa

Hi guys,

Another quick question about the post K1 approval stage...

I've heard that you need to book a return flight when travelling to the US on a K1 visa. Is this true or will a one way ticket do the job?

You do not neet a return ticket to travel to the US on a K-1; the presumption being a K-1 will stay in the US and establish residence upon arrival according to the conditions under which the visa was issued.

However oftentimes a round trip ticket is less expensive than one way. There is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that you should cancel the return portion of the ticket if you choose to buy a rt ticket, lest the airline mistakenly report your departure to the USCIS.

No need for a return flight for K1 and immigrant visa holders. Some people would find good deals in roundtrip tickets though. But to be safe, you have to cancel the other leg of the flight itinerary to avoid any chance of a record of you flying out of US.

We only bought a round trip ticket from Europe because it was a lot cheaper. I cancelled the return leg when we arrived in the USA. No problems

You do not need to make any bookings for your travel unless your passport with K1 is in your hands. I have read on one of their official website that "dont make any travel plans, or sell property etc before your visa confirmation"
