Query on Fathers name in birth certificate & Education

Hello All

I recently started following this forum towards DV-2015 and have two queries

1. My father's name in My passport contains 3 names ( Lets say : John David Smith) . This holds true in my School Leaving Certificate as well ( Fathers name is mentioned in this document) . Upon inspection of my translated birth certificate document , I noticed that there's an additional name ( Say : John David Smith George). How big of a deal is this considering I have followed the passport in filling out the DS-260 form - does it even make sense to rectify this in the application.

2. I was schooled in the Indian system which follows a 10+ 2 years of education pattern. The major exams in grade 10 and 12 are conducted by the incumbent board- upon passing of which they provide a PASS certificate indicating the courses taken , a transcript and a Migration certificate in which it clearly states that the board does not have any objects to the student taking up higher education in any accredited University / College.

My question is this : Will carrying the above documents be suffice to validate the high school requirement + by Bachelors & Masters degree - both of which have been completed in the US.

Thanks a ton in advance and appreciate the good work on this forum !!

It wouldn't have been an issue if it was a middle name.

I would suggest that if the extra name is not part of the middle name, then file an affidavit of Change of name in your home country to represent what you have already submitted to the US .

For (1), I don't think it is a problem. I had a similar issue, where my father's name on my birth certificate is slightly different (name order reversed and his family name duplicated as his middle name) than it is on any other documents. I asked on the boards and people said it shouldn't cause any problem and you don't have to do anything to rectify it.

Essentially, when it comes to discrepancies in data, the officers are looking at it this way: was it done intentionally, or was putting different data an attempt to get a visa when the real data would have prevented the applicant from getting a visa. In your case neither of these apply so you should be good.

For (2), I am not fully sure. It seems like it should be fine, especially since you attended higher education in the US. Oftentimes the officers will specifically look for a High School Diploma, but it seems that the Pass certificate and Migration certificate should be equivalent. Perhaps someone more familiar with the Indian school system and equivalent will be able to answer.
