Obama Said to Propose Deep Cuts to Power-Plant Emissions

Apparently destroying the health sector wasn't enough. The preznit now has big plans to further destroy the energy sector as well.

Preznit Barack Obama will propose cutting greenhouse-gas emissions from the nation’s power plants by an average of 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030, according to people briefed on the plans.

The proposal, scheduled to be unveiled by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tomorrow morning, represents one of the boldest steps the U.S. has taken to fight global warming -- and a political gamble.

Obama signaled both the importance of the rule to his legacy on environmental protection and the bruising fight ahead by joining a conference call today with congressional Democrats, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and White House counselor John Podesta to rally support.

Obama dismissed complaints that the rule will hurt the economy by driving up electricity prices, and told the Democrats listening: “Please go on offense” to promote the plan’s benefits, said two people who were on the call, including Representative Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democrat.

Connolly and another person on the call said the president suggested that rather than having an adverse effect on the economy -- as critics say -- his rule to limit carbon pollution will boost the economy by $43 billion to $74 billion.

Here's a chart that shows what will happen to long-term energy costs:

Let us hope the proposal goes down in flames.

Reducing pollution to improve our health is ok.....but for the myth of man made global warming.........all these idiots should be lined up and shot with as few bullets as possible. You know....less lead and fewer people "destroying the planet". I wish all the wackos would feel so guilty about their carbon footprints that they would do the right thing and kill themselves. Anything less makes them hypocrites.......never mind delusional.

While I am generally pro-environment, I don't think the economy should be ground to a halt to protect snail darters or desert tortoises. There should be a balance, which any good executive knows. That's why this bunch of no-experience faculty-lounge amateurs don't see the consequences of their actions (or do they...?).

XL pipeline is a perfect example: the environmental impact would be minimal, but the potential economic benefits are fantastic. Makes one wonder if the economic havoc this administration is wreaking isn't deliberate.

Let's see if he can take on the legal sector next.

I AM pro environment, and I think that a balance has been reached, courtesy of the oil-man politicians we have, and the gobs of money the energy sector is throwing at Congress.

Your use of the 'snail darter' is inappropriate in this context because we are not talking about destroying its habitat.

No, it's places such as Florida and New York City, low-lying areas that would be impacted by rising oceans that greenhouse gases cause.

Under ideal conditions, the XL pipeline would have minimal impact. But when is anything built by man, and exposed to nature, ever ideal? Since the Ogalallah Aquifer is beneath the area that XL would cross, and would be tainted by an oil spill, maybe we should err on the side of caution.

You must live in the mountains.
