What medical insurance options are available for wife before her status gets adjusted?

I have a regular, not so fancy health insurance for myself. My wife's is currently technically "out of status", but we are about to file for AOS. We really don't have much money to be going to doctor's appointments for her, so I'm trying to figure out what to do for her. She has an eye infection and I'm assuming a regular doctor's visit may be too expensive (though, we'll go that route if its unavoidable).

Do you think I'll be able to put her onto my health insurance? If not, what other options are available? I am in New York City. Thanks.

Unless you were married within the last few days, it's unlikely your health insurance company will allow you to add your spouse to your existing policy until open enrollment begins later in the year.

If you've married her within the last 3 months or so, you may be able to get her on your insurance with or without a social security number. It really all depends on your insurance policy.

If you cannot get her on your insurance, you may want to see if there are any free clinics in your area. I know in most major cities, there are some. Sometimes churches can help you find a local doctor or organization that will see your wife. Also, local medical schools sometimes do clinics.

I married her on April 16. I will ask, tomorrow when I call my insurance company. She doesn't have a Social Security Number. I'll see what can be done. Thanks.

Call around to local optometrists, including the ones at walmart. I work in the field, and here the Walmart doctors charge roughly $60 for a consult on an eye infection. (That's higher than some smaller cities, though) I'm not sure what any of the medicines run, but it's a start. Try not to put it off too long, as you don't want any permanent damage done to her eye.

I got married on March 10 and next day I included her in my insurance...11 days later she delivered our child.

I had no problems and my insurance covered around 75% of the medical expenses.

Just make sure your wife has SSN because the insurance will require it.
