How to get a Vietnamese birth certificate?

Hello everyone!!!!

So my friend's father who came to the US on a boat after Vietnam War wants to get a birth certificate or something equivalent to that.

Is it possible? He is in his 60s. Do they even have pre-war records stored somewhere?

If possible, how can he get it? Does he have to visit Vietnam or...?

Any help will be very appreciated.

that's a tough one.

my non-legal suggestions

1) if he is a US citizen then there should be some documentation from the US side that they accepted his date and place of birth from 1st documentation when he first arrived onto US soil during the initial processing in GUAM (probably); ie, granted special status (automatic back then by President Ford and Congress), He can use these official documents (US passport & naturalization certificate) along with a notarized letter explaining the situation.

2) if he is going back to Vietnam, they may still have record at the hospital where is was born - these are usually not destroyed... if he knows anyone there, he can ask them first to go and see if the records still exist and perhaps get a copy for him.

Records from South Vietnam are almost impossible to get,

Your father would need to re-register his birth to obtain another birth certifificate.

Is there a particular reason your father needs a birth certificate?
