emails in foreign language - proof of relationship

Hello - my fiance and I have over 150 emails between us - some of which we plan to use as proof of relationship. However, most of these are in Portuguese. My question is - would it be sufficient for me to translate these (as I am an American and native English speaker) or do they need to be done by a certified translator? What will the USCIS accept? Thanks for the help!

Does not have to be a certified translator. You can translate or a friend but must include a statement saying that you are proficient in the language and must sign and date.

Don't forget that e-mails are considered more secondary proof. Try to submit more primary evidence such as passport stamps, boarding passes, credit card purchases in your fiance's country. THen you can bring in the secondary evidence (e-mails, pics) to support your primary evidence. Good luck!

We chose 5 of our many e-mails (all in Portuguese) and a friend of mine translated them for me. After each translation she wrote that blurb about how she is proficient in both languages....and signed and dated them. We submitted the translated e-mail with the Portuguese e-mail behind it. We had no problems - no RFEs.

We had plenty of other proof but we did send e-mails.

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil
