There's a huge aftermarket on this. The AR-15 is the most customizable...

However - for many folk - it's enough to change out the grip or get the sights redone to suit.

Remember car enthusiasts changing out parts - adding stuff - to get faster speeds or higher performance? For many - is the same reason... There are color choices also - to be aesthetically pleasing - shoving away from gun-metal grey or blue...

I remember being told that a Stock is designed to fit everybody so fits nobody!

Most of the changes I know of are cosmetics or to improve accuracy. But I know more about rifles than pistols.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

My true thoughts are I am in favor of the 2nd amendment to a point. It's smart ####### comments by gun owners towards folks like me that give us pause. Kind of like an independent voter.

So it sounds like you you agree that CA politicians are ignorant (given I'm just quoting their law).

No, they don't look menacing so I say keep them. The more military like a gun looks, the more people it kills. Without human intervention.

So the menacing looks of a weapon plays no roll in someone purchasing it? What is the purpose of purchasing a menacing looking weapon?

is huge aftermarket in pistol grips for pistols [sorry if i wasn't clear about it earlier] ..

I remember making my first grip--from scratch--in an uncle's workshop. all it did was reduce the fatigue in my hand from holding it past the 2nd clip - and that was the entire purpose for changing out the grip... man - i was still a teenager ! -- but happy to be allowed into the workshop and not lose any fingers on the power tools.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Why do people buy Hummers?

Why do people wear cammo gear to hunt?

For some people any gun looks menacing. eye of the beholder.

Please don't twist me on gun ownership ;) I've a cache of weapons like many other gun enthusiasts. Mine are not stored at home - save for 2 pistols and a sawed off-shotgun - and my wife and I are proficient--both of us holding CCAs....

Her pistol _IS_ cutish pink - she picked it out her own self and I changed out my weapon from my cache so we both use the same ammo. She LOVES to shoot on the range and has nice lady/female carry stuff that ACCESSORIZES her hidden pistol very well.

I'm all for gun ownership - but if you want to take someone's life due to home invasion - I only ask that you are proficient in shooting the weapon - have basic safety training and make that first shot count [i prefer a kneecap shot followed up with one under the chin as they are sprawled on the floor writhing in pain from the kneecap shot]

All this cr@p we hear about kids at home discharging weapons and killing someone is simply a moral decay problem ....

If I ever need to get to my cache of weapons and actually use them - well - the zombie apocalypse started and we're headed to safe ground anyway [where the cache is actually stored] .. I built the cache in 1999 when the milennium was coming up - as I was afraid of the christian-sects that were going to riot when the God not return and I was actually worried about them... I think I'm proficient in assault weapons - having trained on the Green Team in my younger days... But I cannot see the need to store them at the house -- much less use them at the house...

With all that said - shooting an AR-15 modded to full auto on a private range is really f'ing fun - take yer lass out sometime to the range - pay the rental and ammo - and have some FUN !!!

Darnell, I was not attempting to twist you on gun ownership, I know exactly where you stand on it. I appreciate your honesty in answering my question.

The deadliest mass shooting in American history. Va Tech

The shooter used a glock and 22 pistol

What now

ban those too?

This is easy to do. Point out a scenario that a proposed restriction would not address as a means to sink the proposed restriction. Nothing's going to fix everything but that doesn't mean some things can't or shouldn't be addressed.

People I know that buy hummers do so to be a show off, to get attention and say "look at me". Would you agree with that assessment?

For me I spent 13 years in the military carrying an M-16. I am very comfortable with a AR-15. I am trained in it's maintenance and handling, and I enjoy the nostalgia of going to the range and putting rounds down range. Why should i be denied that because someone who does not understand, thinks it looks dangerous.

A Corvette ZR-1 goes 205 MPh and has over 600 HP. I don't think anyone should have this car. It goes almost 135 MPH than any posted speed limit in the US. It seats only 2 and is not fuel efficient. What practical use could this car have in the real world. ban it

Do you know what would do the most good?

If the press chose not to publish details on the killer. In Austria, they had a rash of subway suicides and it was getting worse. They decided to follow media guidelines sensitive to the issue and the rate of suicides dropped substantially.

This last killing is already fueling the next one - mass killings are contagious.

In no way am I saying we should infringe the 1st amendment. But if the media followed a voluntary policy it would do far more then trying to ban a certain weapon.

Because this is civilian life, we are not in the military and we shouldn't have to live like we are. An AR-15 is not a civilian weapon. That's why we have a military to begin with, so we can live peacefully.

Please keep the vehicle references coming, they're almost as comical as me attempting to say I know a lot about guns.

AR 15 is not a military weapon.

M 16 is.

He likes having a rifle that feels similar to what he was used to.

Even within the AR 15 range there are significant different price points and quality.

To look extra cuddly when you go to the gym.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.
