I actually answered that question in this thread if you care to look. AR15s are the most customizable firearm on the planet and can be built for any size person, for almost any use, even small game.

So other guns are customizable? I see.

Yes that pistol grip makes so much more dangerous ROFL

This is the kind of bs that makes non gun owners like myself want to take your guns away. Just because you are familiar with guns and don't view them as a threat, does not mean everyone feels the same way.

Ruger 10/22 must come close?

Please don't twist me on gun ownership ;) I've a cache of weapons like many other gun enthusiasts. Mine are not stored at home - save for 2 pistols and a sawed off-shotgun - and my wife and I are proficient--both of us holding CCAs....

Her pistol _IS_ cutish pink - she picked it out her own self and I changed out my weapon from my cache so we both use the same ammo. She LOVES to shoot on the range and has nice lady/female carry stuff that ACCESSORIZES her hidden pistol very well.

I'm all for gun ownership - but if you want to take someone's life due to home invasion - I only ask that you are proficient in shooting the weapon - have basic safety training and make that first shot count [i prefer a kneecap shot followed up with one under the chin as they are sprawled on the floor writhing in pain from the kneecap shot]

All this cr@p we hear about kids at home discharging weapons and killing someone is simply a moral decay problem ....

If I ever need to get to my cache of weapons and actually use them - well - the zombie apocalypse started and we're headed to safe ground anyway [where the cache is actually stored] .. I built the cache in 1999 when the milennium was coming up - as I was afraid of the christian-sects that were going to riot when the God not return and I was actually worried about them... I think I'm proficient in assault weapons - having trained on the Green Team in my younger days... But I cannot see the need to store them at the house -- much less use them at the house...

With all that said - shooting an AR-15 modded to full auto on a private range is really f'ing fun - take yer lass out sometime to the range - pay the rental and ammo - and have some FUN !!!

This is a New York approved AR 15 that has been modified to take away all the bad bits the Legislators did not like. Smaller mag, no pistol grip, no barrel thread, a few others I forget.

The original statement made about an AR-15 in this thread was made by NB. I simply asked him and anyone else here what purpose an AR-15 served the average gun owner that no other gun out there can. The answer which was given by Darnell, is none. It was you gun enthusiasts who took it on this wild ride, which is what you usually do to deflect. All of these military style assault weapons should be banned in my opinion.

You were given several answers. i did not think I needed to repeat them. My point is that this is an absurd argument. You want to ban a gun that I legally own for no other reason than you don't like the way it looks.

it has been shown in here that mass killers used an assortment of guns.

Ok let's say every AR=15 is gone tomorrow. It will solve ZIP! If some nut job wants to go on killing spree that will just get a Min--14, a shot gun or some other weapon. What you gonna do, ban every gun ever used in a spree killing

example.. You wanna ban glocks also.

http://www.kjrh.com/news/semiautomatic-weapons-used-in-aurora-tucson-virginia-tech-newtown-connecticut-shootings

Among the U.S. mass killings in which Glocks were involved:

-- Friday's killings at the Connecticut elementary school, where police recovered a Glock and a Sig Sauer semiautomatic pistols, along with a .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle.

-- The July carnage at a midnight showing of a Batman movie in Aurora, Colo., where James Holmes is accused of killing 12 moviegoers and wounding dozens. Among other weapons, Holmes allegedly wielded a .40-caliber Glock handgun and had another in his car.

-- The January 2011 attack outside a Tucson, Ariz., grocery store that critically wounded then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 12 others, and killed six. The convicted shooter, Jared Loughner, carried a Glock 19 pistol, police said.

-- The April 2007 mass shooting at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va., in which 32 students and others died, and 17 were wounded. Shooter Seung-Hui Cho, who killed himself, was armed with a Glock 19 pistol and a Walther P22 semiautomatic pistol.

-- The November 1999 deaths of seven at a Xerox office building in Honolulu, where Byran Uyesugi wielded a Glock 9 mm pistol.

-- The March 1998 rampage at Connecticut State Lottery headquarters, where Matthew Beck used a Glock 9 mm pistol to kill four and himself.

-- The October 1991 massacre at a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, where George Hennard used a Glock 9 mm, along with other handguns, to kill 23 and wound 20. Kennard killed himself as well.

A semiautomatic Springfield 9 mm pistol was the weapon of choice in August, when Wade Michael Page killed six and wounded four at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. Page was shot to death by police.

And Anders Behring Brenik relied on a Glock 17 9 mm pistol, as well as a semiautomatic rifle, to mow down 69 people -- mostly teenagers -- at a youth camp in July 2011 in Norway.

Its still used by snipers. Also good for larger game, target practice etc. Its not good for self defense unless your neighbors are something like 10 miles away from you.

For sure. The long barrel rifles usually aren't any good for "spray" shooting. Close range rapid fire weapons have no business in the public sector. I know they don't kill nearly as many folks as pistols but I can understand why someone would want a pistol for home protection. I cannot understand why someone would need a short barrel rapid fire gun with a high capacity magazine for home protection. As a result of that lack of justification, I don't see why they should be allowed to exist.

In fact, of the people I know that are super gung-ho about home protection via weapons, they all prefer traditional, unmodified, semi auto pistols.

There's a huge aftermarket on this. The AR-15 is the most customizable...

However - for many folk - it's enough to change out the grip or get the sights redone to suit.

Remember car enthusiasts changing out parts - adding stuff - to get faster speeds or higher performance? For many - is the same reason... There are color choices also - to be asthetically pleasing - shoving away from gun-metal grey or blue...

Good to know your true thoughts.

But i'm just quoting existing laws like in CA….ie a pistol grip automatically turns a rifle into assault weapon.

My true thoughts are I am in favor of the 2nd amendment to a point. It's smart ####### comments by gun owners towards folks like me that give us pause. Kind of like an independent voter.

The CA law was drafted by Politicians!

I remember one in Colorado when asked about high capacity magazines said well all the existing ones are not an issue as people would use them up. :goofy:

Remember for them it is not how logical the laws they make are, it is how they appear to their supporters.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Answers of which you gave none.

The only answer given that is valid is the gun's ability to be customized. Not nearly enough to sway my thinking on it.

No, they don't look menacing so I say keep them. The more military like a gun looks, the more people it kills. Without human intervention.
