So can AR-15's. I don't think there has ever been an armed robbery or killing in my county with an AR-15

Ok say we ban AR-15's what will change ?

This is the side you see.

The side I see is why would it not be banned?

Once again, I don't think it will fix everything. I just don't see any practical reason why it should be allowed to be sold.

Market for AR 10s will increase?

Why should banned members be allowed to return?

You can't really ban them. So you write a law saying 'All AR 15s are banned". Well its a trademark, so you have banned one company (I think Colt owns the trademark…could be wrong).

Next you go after features that make an AR what it is. Manufacturers adapt until you get to the point CA is at….which is you have to ban all semi-autos that do not have perm. fixed magazines to get to the AR type platform. But that is generally going too far even for democrats…..and even going so far as as banning semi autos with removable mags isn't enough because the platform is so damn module. A guy invented a pin allowing for rapid reloading by hinging the upper off the lower.

Tell me, if every AR=15 in America was gone tomorrow, what would change ? Nothing

That pretty much sums it up.

AR 15 is a Colt trademark and California actually banned AR 15 and various other names.

AR 15 is also used like Hoover is for Vacuum Cleaners.

The picture below shows a CA compliant clone, as you can see it does not have any of the scary features.

I know somebody who bought an AR 15 type in Colorado, he did not realise it was a CA version. It had a pin in the stock so it could not be adjusted. Amusingly it came with a 20 round magazine, illegal in Colorado. Nobody cared.

Yeah thats a bullet button. The current law, says that magazines must be fixed and only removable by a tool. Well a bullet is by definition a tool, so the tip of a bullet drops the magazine making the gun legal. Ingenious.

I resisted as long as I could, in two other threads, but you tripped my trigger, Teddy. Lemme ask YOU... what purpose does a modern firearm serve that a musket does not? They were used to kill animals and people over a hundred years ago. So why is a modern-day single-shot .22 needed? Or a .40 pistol? Or a 5-shot .223 rifle? There IS NO NEED. Simply the desire of folks to have modern toys and tools. Even today, some people prefer to buy antique weapons. Why? There is NO NEED! Simply a desire to buy something that is attractive to them, for whatever their personal reason.

You say "military style assault weapons"... let's take a look at some of which ye speak.

Circa 1873

Circa 1911

historic-guns-05-1112-lgn.jpg

Circa 1936

historic-guns-07-1112-lgn.jpg

Circa 1949, the "most effective and popular weapon in history, with over 75 million made"

historic-guns-09-1112-lgn.jpg

All were "assault weapons" in their time, and many are still coveted today. Different calibers for different needs/wants/cost effectiveness. Why is the AR-15 popular today? Ammo is cheap and readily available. Probably on a par with the 7,62mm ammo. Less recoil, easier to shoot repeatedly. Cheaper on ammo than many handguns. Accurate.

But is it truly an "assault weapon"??? Only if you point it at another human being with the intent of doing harm. Just like my .22, my slingshot, and my pellet gun.

The original statement made about an AR-15 in this thread was made by NB. I simply asked him and anyone else here what purpose an AR-15 served the average gun owner that no other gun out there can. The answer which was given by Darnell, is none. It was you gun enthusiasts who took it on this wild ride, which is what you usually do to deflect. All of these military style assault weapons should be banned in my opinion.

I think the answer is pretty simple Dave. The modern day firearms are capable of much more death and destruction in a shorter period of time. With the advances in modern technology, one does not need to be a marksman to take out 20 people in a matter of seconds with a modern day weapon. It's far too easy for some nut to get a hold of one of these weapons and go on a rampage with death tolls in the double digits in just a matter of seconds. They simply serve no purpose in modern day society other than causing death and destruction and fighting a pretend war against the gov't.
