Won't negotiate with terrorists? You had better tell that to Ronald Reagan, who sold a boatload of missles to the terrorist government of Ayatollah Khomeni and then used the proceeds to support the terrorist Contras who were fighting the elected government of Nicaragua.

Yes, Obama did reduce the deficit. It is less than half now from when he took office.

And I sitll have my pre-Obamacare doctors.

One more thing to complete my two cents: Even if this soldier is guilty of desertion, he is still entitled to a fair trial at a court martial board. Abandoning him to the enemy is never approproiate, guilty or not.

Ronald Reagan is dead. I'll never get the logic that says "If one president does something stupid, then any president that follows can, do anything equal to or more stupid and it's just fine because some other president did it before" We'll just run around and say "Well so and so did it before! so it's ok"

Clinton received oral sex from an intern in the white house while he was married. So is that ok now? I mean there's a precedent after all. I could go on and on.

You're right, he should face trial. However there's the not so small matter of the 5 terrorists that were released in exchange for him.

You must be new here. Anything the past administration has done is non admissible. It's only a problem if Obama does it.

But it was still Bush's fault until 2 years into Obama's presidency. So Obama will be on the hook until 2018. It's best to only serve one term, then what you get blamed for doesn't last as long.

The US has supported lots of terrorist organisationg when it has suited purpose. Exchanging prisoners is what happens in the real pragmatic world. I am not at all sure that any attention should be paid to extreme right wingers. It seems like their absurd accusations are weakening the position of the US, not strengthening it but ultimately the whole episode will be forgotten soon enough and nothing will change that much.

I'd argue that Obama weakened the position of the U.S. far more than any "right-winger" ever could have. He's sent a crystal clear message that he's willing to negotiate with terrorists in order to get a hostage released. Not only that he's willing to release FIVE terrorist leaders in exchange for one American. Any terrorist with an IQ over 50 now knows that if he wants to get other terrorists released from custody, all he has to do is kidnap an American. If I were a consular official in an unfriendly country (Pakistan or Iraq for example) I'd start looking for another line of work.

Obama's entire 2008 campaign was based on "Bush did it" He did the exact same thing in 2012. I guess when you have nothing to offer, it's better to just blame the guy before you and hope that you get lucky and do a marginally better job than him.

Obama is not the first, nor will he be the last US president who has negotiated with terrorists. Not sure how to be clearer than that. As to how dangerous it is to live in these areas, it's no more dangerous than it was yesterday, yesterday it was dangerous. What do you think they have been doing in Pakistan/Afghanistan for the last 10 years? Having a picnic?

I don't think I have ever heard Obama say he would do something because 'Bush' did it. If he did, that would be stupid. Each decision is made on its own merits. Do you honestly think that the president and all the diplomats and mandarins are completely stupid?

I should have been clearer in my post. I responding to Spooky's post. Instead of "Bush did it" I should have said "It's Bush's fault" Obama has made that assertion over and over in both of his campaigns. I'm sure there's about 1 million examples of this in his campaign speeches on the web. I can look a few up if you'd like.

Add to that, Obama ignored and violated the very law he signed with regard to releasing terrorist from beautiful Guantanamo Bay.

I am quite sure Obama is not blaming either the capture or the release of this prisoner on Bush, so I am not sure what you are suggesting regarding Obama and Bush. Could you be even more specific?

If we get an opposition party President, nothing will be Obama's fault

CNN was running a story today about how it appeared discipline was lax in Bergdahls unit, because some reporter showed them next to a fighting position with their helmets off , which anyone who has ever been in an Infantry unit knows is total BS. President breaks the law, blame the discipline in a line unit. Yup they are not in the tank for the Preznitz.

Perhaps you could try judging each situation on its own merits rather than this blanket denial that anything can be laid at the door of decisions made by past presidents? The economic situation is a prime example, you can't change presidents and immediately the economy starts at zero. It doesn't. Things that have happened before have an effect on the things that happen afterwards, some positive, some negative and the new choices that are made can't wipe out those previous decisions.
