Captured military personnel overseas is a threat to the U.S., no?

They are not civilians. These people have information. We don't want this in the wrong hands. I don't agree with the release of the Al Qaeda prisoners, but I do agree we needed this little snot back.

Maybe initially they MIGHT be a threat. Not 4 years later. I'm sure this guy gave them all the information they wanted within the first week of his captivity.

I am pretty sure a E=4 who had been in captivity 5 years was not holding top secret info. The fact is, and I think it will come out, he set out to join the Taliban and got more than he bargained for.

I am not saying getting him back is wrong. Exchanging the starting line up of the Taliban for him and breaking the law by doing it, by the President, is wrong and that is why people are outraged. Even the Democratic head of the Intelligence committee called him out

I also think having that back slapping I love you ceremony in the rose garden was a big mistake, as was Susan Rice calling him a hero who served his country Honorable. Us soldiers who have had friends die in combat, take real exception when our presidents administration calls a deserting enemy collaborator a hero.

So do I, so he can explain why he willfully walked away, explain his emails, and the letter he left as he deserted.

"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" - Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945.

"Retreat hell! We just got here!"

As a Marine how does he make you feel that the Susan Rice said he served with honor and distinction ?

I dunno - if he was clearly identified as a deserter [not opinion, not conjecture - but fact - clearly identified]

then

I say leave him where he is - not push forward with trading on the 5 to 1 bits at all.

Yea, I agree, but I don't agree fully. You never want to leave the enemy with your personal information. The guy was a walking, talking, driver's license, passport, credit card, ect. to the U.S.

How's that? He'd thrived for five years under their care. Absolutely no reason to fear for his health now.

It's clear this was a politically timed tactic to divert attention from the VA scandal, for which 79% of Americans hold the preznit personally responsible. This administration has no shame.

Before you go all nutsy on my, which it looks like you already have, I am just posting pieces of the article online. That is not my quote, that is a quote from the article.

A. Bush's fault . can also be "conjure up any conservative in history that even remotely did anything similar to what is going on today. It makes it ok.

I would say the article mentioned more than Bush, yes? Stop being a one-sider

If he did, Even More the reason to get him back. Now, our turn. Find out what he gave them.

Overheard conversations are the best leakers.

Just saying, no President should want to leave any of his troops captured and behind enemy lines, no matter if they did or did not go AWOL.

I kind of think after five years they got all of that so he was of no more use to them unless they turned him into terrorist and he will enter the USA as a silent weapon for their side..........mmm no probably not if he didnt have the back bone to stand with his fellow servicemen .......he is worth zero to us...well not worth five terrorist anyway......normally i agree with most things you post but not this one :)

That's okay Sara. I will stand alone on this one.

If anything, to get him back to find out what he did tell them is worth it. Then they can take him to trial and do what they want. In no way am I defending the guy's actions.

Do I at least get like a 20% from you :content: ?

I don't know. What do I look like, his mother?

I am not defending him. I just believe we should not leave this kind a leak in the hands of our enemies. Now that he is back we can do what we want with him.

This only

Civil discourse seems quite the challenge for you. You seem to agree with much of the piece, which is presumably why you posted it. Since I assume you also read the entire piece, I didn't think it too much to ask why after five years of captivity, the preznit found it suddenly so pressing to free this bum.

But no. Now you distance yourself from the article. Oh well...

Here are the issues. I think the majority agree him coming back is a positive

1. Obama traded 5 of the top Taliban leadership. 5 that his admin had been told repeatedly were too unsafe to release.

2. Obama broke the law. Even the top leaders of his won party admit that.

3. They knew this soldier was a deserter at best and possible traitor at worst. They still threw a massive celebration and members of the Admin called him a Hero and said he served honorably and with distinction, which is slap in the face to every man and woman who does wear the uniform with pride and distinction

I honestly think that this Admin is so out of touch and that so many of his advisers are liberal elitist, that have no clue about the Military, they really thought exchanging 5 top leaders of our enemy, for this deserter , would appease a lot of the veteran groups that are so up in arms about the VA scandal.

I don't know. What do I look like, his mother?

an e-4 who has been in captivity 5 years is of Zero intelligence risk

Whatever. The only part you actually saw me highlight, (and that is of course, if you can see) was the part about other Presidents taking some kind of action on hostage negotiations and that Obama was not the first. Bingo

And sticking to everything I have originally stated before, we needed him back. How in the halibut do I know why after 5 years they wanted him back. I don't actually care. We need Snowden back too. Traitors don't deserve to live a life overseas. They need to be brought back and handled. Sorry you don't like my stance.

Again, I understand your point, but I still have my own. If you don't agree, no biggie. It doesn't hurt to not have the exact same view as someone else.
