I just confimed with US Embassy in Georgia and they e-mailed me this:

I haven't gotten that far yet. The only availible interview date right now there is July 30th. there are still 3 spots availible. but that date doesn't work for us, so I am waiting for the next availible apointment date. And the website won't let me go pass that page without selecting a date, so idk at what stage it requires it. I figured, I will be calling in to schedule if online will be requiring deposit slip.

I am writing you here, since I am sure all Azerbaijani files, who will be having their interview in Tbilisi, will find this important.

I asked the Tbilisi consulate how long the Non Impediment to Marriage Certificate is valid.

Their answer was kind of shocking. Basically, what they are saying, is that the certificate is only valid 1 day!!! On the date it was issued!!!!

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a US citizen. My fiance' is going to have his K-1 visa interview some time this year. Could you please let us know, how soon the certificate of non impediment to marriage will expire after the issuance?

ption: I apologize, but your answer was confusing to me. "Validity until the date it was issued" means to me, if the certificate is issued, say, on July 31st, it will be already not valid the next day,on August 1st. That means, the certificate should be dated by the date of the interview, and it's not really possible to get the certificate on the day of the interview and to present it to the consulate the same day. Please, clarify that for me, if I got you wrong.

That sounds really complicated though. I am not sure how it is physically possible - to have the visa interview and to obtain the certificate the same day, especially giving that it has to be translated and notarized.

Do you have any idea how the other applicants have successfully dealt with that situation?

Will that be possible to show up for the interview without the certificate and then to obtain it and deliver it to the consulate later, as an additionally needed document?

I will be waiting for their answer. I believe, that all doesn't make sense. May be, we are dealing with some inexperienced representative, who is misinterpreting the regulations. Since it is not possible to obtain the certificate, have it translated, verified and also come to the interview all at the same day!!!

OMG, this definitely sounds ridiculous. An acquaintance of mine is having her interview for K1 tomorrow. I asked her to document everything about her experience and share it with me.

Update on the interview:

She arrived at the Embassy at 8:00 and was called to the window at 11am. First she was asked for her passport and affidavit of support with supporting documents. In 10 minutes she was called back to the window where interview took place. Her interviewer was an American woman. She was asked the following questions: where and how did you meet, how many times did you see each other in person, where her fiancé works, is he a good person. Also asked her to show their pictures together and asked her about people in pictures. Then she was asked why there was a co-sponsor and why is her fiancé doesn’t make enough money to support her. At the end of the interview she was told that they couldn’t give her an answer today because they need additional time to review documents she submitted today. She was given 221g letter (couldn't figure out how to attach it here - check out my photo album, I posted it there), her passport and was told to go back to Baku. They told her that they will contact her and if visa is issued, she can then send her passport in.

There were two more K1 interviews and one CR1 – they all got 221g letters because some documents were missing.

There were no issues with the validity of “no marriage” certificate. They took notarized copies of her birth certificate, police certificate and “no marriage” certificate.

Please keep in mind all documents that need translation, in addition to certified translation must be notarized.

Holy cow. I thought it all goes very smooth and easy in Gerogia...

I was wondering if that's because of the co-sponsor? I don't have a co sposnor. I really shouldn't tell about this to my finacee,she will be freaking out even more than I am right now:(

Question:

Interviewer asked about pictures. Would black and white copies of the pics that were included in 129f package work, or should we print colored pictures?

Also, what language did the interview go on? Since you mentioned interviewer was American, did they speak english? or they had a translator and it was on Russian? Do they give you an option?

Interview was in English, She speaks English very well and started talking to interviewer in English.

Well, original 129f package, Which they are supposed to have, has all colored pictures. and then again, color pictures didn't help your friend:( So might as well not worry about it.

Interview was in English, She speaks English very well and started talking to interviewer in English.

Hmm, i'd rather have my fiancee speak in russian as if it comes to describing her feeling towards me, she can get more sensitive and detailed.

My fiance' doesn't speak English at all. The CO's Georgian was extremely poor. She couldn't understand my fiance. So, she asked him if he spoke Russian, which he did, and then she continued in Russian. So, they do speak Russian there.
