General Timeline related questions for I-751 form and process

My wife just received a letter from USCIS as reminder to file I-751 though we are about 110 days away from her 2 year green card expiry date. We are changing our home next month (within same state but a different city), so I am trying to figure out the best time to file for I-751.

Questions:

1. At minimum how many days before green card expiry date, applicant must file I-751 to avoid any issues? (By the time we will file it may be around 70 days before expiry date)

2. How many months generally it takes to get the new 10 year green card?

3. Can applicant travel out of country while this application is in process? (NOTE: We are thinking to travel about 6 months after we file I-751)

1. 70 days before expiry sounds like a totally reasonable filing time. People have filed the day before (sending overnight with tracking) and had no issue, although that is cutting it a little close.

2. There was just a case on here where someone was approved in 3 months. But often it takes 6 months or longer. The extension letter will be good for a year. There are some topics in this forum by month people have filed (ex. May 2014 filers thread). You can look through those and see a reasonable timeframe.

3. Yes, absolutely. When you receive your NOA it will double as the 1 year extension letter. Carry that and your expired greencard with you.

Off topic related to DMV license, My wife has also got her driver's license which expires the same day as her GC expiry date. Will DMV extend her licesnse by 1 year until she has a permanent extension for 10 years?

There is no hard and fast rule to get approved so fast,but at this time better to send all joint tax transcripts instead of tax documents and all joint docs should cover whole 2 years time duration.

Don't forget to change address online for beneficiary and mail I865 for sponsor.

1 year extension letter is usually shown to extend ID.

Also biometrics appointment is very important to attend,which you get usually within 2 weeks of filing i751.

It better to make any travel plans after attending bio appointment.
