Congrats! Happy for you!

I'm very happy for everyone getting their interview dates, but I can't help but feel a little upset my wife's is at the end of August. I'll have to call the embassy to see if she can reschedule. We just got the interview email today, so the next thing we'll be doing is scheduling the medical exam.

Quick question: I see people talking about how their package was shipped to the embassy and/or is "ready". Where do I see this and how? Thanks.

So glad to see a F2A here.

Go to first post and read about it. You have a while before any tracking is to be done.

Honestly just watch the CEAC Visa tracker is better. With DHL like I have stated many times here you have no way of knowing if that's yours or a K1 or a reaffirm or nothing.

Medical all that is for you to find out. No way NVC can make a letter for every embassy. I would start right here on VJ have you looked at your countries portal page. It has alot what you need.

Ok yea i looked at it, my interviewetter was just a 4 page letter but it directed me to the countries website. I already set an appointment for my wife for the medical. Thanks guys

Got the interview letter by email this morning and my case is already in transit... wow ! Things have never gone this fast (we would know, we've been waiting for a year and 1 month...)

Anyway, I just want to know what happens after the interview. It is my understanding that my husband, the beneficiary, will receive his passport (visa in it) by mail within 7 business days after the interview. Then what? He has to pay another fee online, $165, to get his Green Card? He does this online on the CEAC website?? And only then can he come to the US?

First of all -- I think this is a country specific question and depending on the country things go differently- but i am pretty sure regardless of the country - you will be paying the $165 fee at the embassy when they approve the application, I have read and understand that you come back the next day to pick up your passports with the visa attached to a page, along with a package that is NOT TO BE OPENED UNTIL POE-- but this may be country specific, when I read that I was reading HONDURAS specific reviews --

but a couple of things are common, leave passport for them to attach visa to, also they put together a SEALED package NOT TO BE OPENED - and you pay your fee at that time at the Embassy... HOW they get it back to you may be in the mail in some countries - not sure about France. but you can read up on reviews that other people have written about the interview-- here

The $165 Immigrant Extortion fee isn't for the visa, it's for the green card. It isn't payable at Embassy from what I've read as I think you can't pay it until, you have visa in hand. It doesn't have to be paid before POE, but it is highly recommended that it is paid beforehand.

Thanks to both of you who replied to my question.

So will it be available to pay online through the CEAC website? And then the Green Card will be sent to my address in the US? Do you know how long that takes?

You will be given instructions on how to pay the Green Card fee at your interview. It is done online - but not through CEAC. You do NOT have to pay it before you enter the US, but your physical green card will not be generated before the fee is paid. It behooves you to pay it as soon as possible after your interview so that the card comes as quickly as possible (to the US address you put in your DS-260 form).

While the Visa page, combined with the stamp at your POE, are "technically" your "Green Card", you will find that many bureaucracies (like the Department of Motor Vehicles) don't understand this. These bureaucracies think that you must present your physical Green Card to be considered a Legal Permanent Resident, but this is not true.

So getting that physical green card as quickly as possible is a good thing.

As with any tragic news story, whenever I hear about something happening in the world, I immediately wonder if one of my fellow I-130 peeps are affected. I just heard about the explosion in Abuja. If anyone here has their spouse in Nigeria, I hope they are safe and okay.
