I just got my appointment notice today! Interestingly I AM required to do biometrics, even though I have travelled in and out of the country several times since POE AND given my fingerprint etc. whenever re-entering.

Updating with my Biometrics appointment now.

I'm curious: do other "visa journeys" lead to ROC as a step, or is this for AOS only?

02/25/2011 Married!

03/19/2012 FINALLY submitted the AOS paperwork: I-130, I-485, I-765, etc.

03/23/2012 Received notification that USCIS has received everything.

03/26/2012 Biometrics Appointment Notice: April 23, 2012.

04/02/2012 NOA's received. Now we wait...

04/23/2012 Biometrics completed.

05/18/2012 EAD card mailed but not yet received.

06/06/2012 Rough interview but we think we're approved! Website says i485 status "Card Production".

06/12/2012 We received the "Welcome the United States" letters! Website says Green Card was mailed.

LIMBO: Green card lost in mail. Facing the possibility of paying hundreds in fees and basically repeating the entire process.

All good now! USPS lost it, then found it.

04/24/14 Back to VJ to get help with I-751, Removal of Conditions.

Has anyone ever gotten an expedited biometrics appointment? Something came up with my family back in Germany and it would be really important for me to travel overseas within the next 2 weeks. My package arrived in Vermont on Friday (6/13) and I would like to call USCIS next week and request an expedite to get my biometrics done before flying (obviously, if this isn't possible I won't leave the country but I'm trying everything I can to be able to go).

I would say if you have just received you NOA1 or will very soon, then you'd be safe to leave for a weeks. Based on my analysis it seems that the typical lead time from time of submission of the I-751 package to the biometrics appointment date is generally one month out.... If you're far along enough in the process, and already received your biometrics date, then I guess you could try and do a walk-in like I've seen other do on this site.

Just my opinion.

Two things: I'm certain I read somewhere that as long as you have your NOA1, you are all good to travel outside the US. I'll look for that now.

Secondly, there is a thread on which offices are known to be cool with early walk-ins, though the consensus seems to be that an early biometrics has no impact on the speed of completion of the process.

I'll look for those things now and update this post.

Update 1: That letter extends your status for one year while you're being processed and if you read it, it okays work and travel.

Update 2: Sorry if I'm missing the point and saying things you already know, but you should keep the receipt with your green card as you travel.

Update 3: Here is a thread on walk-in successes. There may be others related to specific centers by searching. And I also read that you can try to go to any center for a walk-in, not just the one you're supposed to report to. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/367977-thinking-of-early-walk-in-for-biometrics/

Dustin C & AtariBaby: Thank you guys for your replies. The problem is that I probably wouldn't be here by the time I would have the regularly scheduled biometrics appointment, and I heard that if you miss that one, your petition will be abandoned. So I would like to do an early walk-in in Orlando but, as I understand, you can't do that without the appointment notice. As of right now, since Vermont didn't get my application until yesterday, I doubt I will receive an appointment notice within the next 9 - 14 days, correct?

This is just the worst timing...
