I meant regular renewal after 10 years, but OUCH. We're a family of six! I better start saving for that.

And just to be safe, I'm gonna stick those GCs with crazy-glue on my kids until they get their own jobs or naturalize.

Yeah, it's definitely not cheap. In the long run, it'd be cheaper to apply for naturalization ($680) than pay $450 every 10 years. But, obviously naturalization is a big step. One that I'm not personally taking

And yes, definitely don't lose those green cards! Although it's suggested to keep the green card on you, depending on the age/responsibility of your children, you may want to keep their green cards in a safe and have them just carry around a very clear, legible copy of their green card.

So dissapointed. Called NVC and my expedite request was denied - they couldn't give me an explanation. This whole process is the worst thing ever. My husbands Russian visa expires September 1st. If we don't get an interview by then we are screwed and the case will ahve to be transfered to another embassy in Africa which may delay things even more. I want to scream and cry and punch things. I feel like we just cant get a break anywhere.

Once your interview date is assigned, if it's after September 1st, you should probably contact the embassy directly (once they receive your case from NVC) and ask them for an earlier interview date, explaining the Russian visa situation. They may be able to push the date up for you. Not all hope is lost.

Really appreciate the report. I'm curious about the stamp(s) you got on the passport that validated your temporary GC. Is it the same regular arrival stamp that the officer writes Visa type and duration on? A scan of that stamp would be nice.

If you lose the card and need a new one, it's more than $165. You need to file an I-90 and it'll cost $450.

If you mean a 10 year green card, through ROC (from an expired 2 year card), then it's $590 (file I-751).

And if you mean replacing an expired 10 year green card with a new one, then it's $450 (file an I-90).

And 10 years from now that will probably cost double!

Hello guys, congratulations for all whose case got completed or interview got scheduled!

Yesterday i filled and submitted electronic form DS-261, i received AOS fee payment invoice on email today but when i am trying to do payment system doesn't allow me to get it. (it is usual stuffs, takes time maybe 1 day maybe 2). I did package IV and AOS already, except IRS for what i am waiting still, i will have it for July 6.

My questions are:

1) As i read and know, depending how fast you will submit DS-261 as fast you will get IV Package (invoice for payment). Is it right, if yes how much does it take around after DS-261 is done?

2) Because i need to wait for IRS and therefore cant send AOS Package will it cause delay? I thought, I would get and send IV package around same time (after 10 days) when i will get IRS and be able to send AOS. Maybe no matter how fast you sent AOS, they dont start reviewing case before they dont have IV package received? (I hope so )

Yes, as someone mentioned, DO NOT attempt to open or check or re-do your DS261 as it resets the clock and will delay your case!

The AOS fee may become payable in a few days, but delays are common right now and if you look at people's signatures who've done this recently, you'll get a more accurate idea of how long it's taken.

The acceptance of that DS261 does start the clock for your IV invoice, and lately the time has been much delayed, even weeks for many folks here, so be patient.

If you're able to send in the AOS package before the IV package, do it. This gives you more time to respond to any possible checklist for your AOS. (hopefully you don't get one though!) They are reviewed separately, so waiting to send them together is not really helpful other than reducing mailing costs. Go through the AOS with a fine-toothed comb to be sure you've filled everything in properly such as tax numbers and mailing address, and send in all pages... although if I recall properly, you've had advice on what the common errors are from another thread I responded to
