There is no tried and true rule, unfortunately.

The directions clearly state to provide a certified copy or an original. But yet, when you provide a certified copy you can still be check listed. Another inefficient, unnecessary and stressful way that NVC works.

I think it depends on the reviewer. If they have seen a certified copy like yours before, they may be okay with it. Mine looks exactly like lucybelle's but I may or may not be check listed for mine.

I'm calling the King County (where Seattle is) Marriage Certificate Office to double check to see if they issue a different marriage certificate.

There have been many people check listed for certified copies of marriage certificates, both USA and foreign. I will probably be one of them!

Yes, still waiting! One of the NVC phone staffers finally took down the confirmation number for my first ds261 on Friday night. I'll call and try to get that sorted out tomorrow or Tuesday. If that doesn't work out, it looks like late this week or early next week they'll get to the 21st, and I'll get invoiced on the regular schedule. Either way, I'm going to get some (more!) new passport photos done this week and everything will be ready to rock as soon as I get the coversheet.

Well, I have heard something about that... that they don't need to see a scanned copy of the photos in the IV package if we're doing EP. But I'm not incredibly trusting that NVC will follow their own rules (case in point: "leave the space blank if your address is the same as your mailing address") so I think I'll get photos done anyway, and scan them. I mean, I'll need them (hopefully sooner rather than later) for the medical and the interview and whatnot, right?

Yes, thank you for that. I will be getting these done tomorrow and sending to my lawyer to submit with our IV package once we finally get our IV invoice.

We got married in Seattle and our marriage certificate is hand-written (not typed) with a certified seal plus a judge's signature.

Do you think it should be typed? I don't know if I can get any other ones. I'm calling the King County Marriage License office tomorrow to see if they issue a typed marriage certificate.

Scan it and send it to the Embassy you will have your interview at, ask them if it is acceptable make sure to put your visa is immigrant spouse. If they say it's acceptable attach it to your marriage certificate.

Yes, we scanned two passport photographs each ( both side). It is a better idea to email as NVC staffers don't follow guidelines and checklist for 'nothing'. Also do not forget to put your case number, name and date of birth.

Oh my! My furnace is exactly 20 years old, and I'm shocked it's still kicking. I know that's on the list of things to buy this year. At least hubby will be here to help when that does go!

MIne is probably 50 years old. I know its on its last leg. The entire winter I had to go bang on the meter looking thingy everytime I wanted it to kick on. Sometimes it would kick on automatically but not often. I thought it was the thermostat so I replaced it... nope... and I was afraid to call the repair people for fear they would red-tag it and then I would be screwed. I don't have $4000 to replace it. My roof is leaking too so I should probably replace that . I was hoping my husband would be here soon so he could get up there and fix it ! I live in a townhouse and it is just too high for my liking .

Submitted the AOS documents today! (Which is a nice thing about EP... I can submit when I'm ready) Excited and terrified... I've checked it 100 times and caught a few mistakes (recent posts about getting checklists for I864 page 7, for instance!) but at some point, you have to call it done, stop freaking out and submit!

I checked to make sure the pdfs are not protected. The only thing I wonder about that is if those "fillable" pdf forms might respond that way (some of the tax forms, for example, I copied directly from the computer rather than printing them and then scanning them back in, when they didn't need a signature). I guess we'll see if that bites me in the a$$. Hope not!

Hope this week brings good things for all of us: Interviews, case completes, IV fee invoices, AOS fee invoices, DS261s, case numbers... Lots of luck and love to everybody.

Did you check the tax forms for password protection that you downloaded and saved in PDF? Most of the times these are password protected. Lukiduki ( another VJers) got check listed due to the tax transcripts that they had downloaded directly from IRS website for password protection. If I were you, then I'd scan these forms and save in a PDF. Please check these forms again. If need be, then you can email the whole package again without waiting for a checklist as NVC will open all emails in order as they are received.
