3 July: Called USCIS, put in expedite. Was told that the local office would be contacting me in 5 days to request supporting evidence and would tell me where to fax/send it.

7 July: I called USCIS to confirm that someone was looking into my case and would be contacting me since I hadn't heard anything yet. (I had read that USCIS had previously denied expedite requests based on a lack of evidence but never asked the person to submit anything in the first place). Was told by Tier 1 that it would take another 30 days (?!?), so I asked to speak to a Tier 2. She said that if someone didn't contact me the next day, it meant the request was denied.

8 July: No news from USCIS so I wrote (faxed) to my congressman's district office. I included a letter explaining why I was writing and the basis for my expedite, job offer email from the company, some documents showing our financial obligations (e.g. rent statements, monthly bills, etc).

9 July: Congressman's immigration liaison staffer called me and said that she received my documents and would be calling USCIS. In the evening, she called again and said expedite was approved and I would hear in 3 working days from USCIS whether the EAD is denied or approved.

11 July: Status changed to card production! :D

Thank you very much for the explanation, and Congrats!!! :dancing::dancing:

i will try the congressman again, or wait 3 months, since i dont have a job offer! the worst part is just stay at home, sooo boring

Thanks for the explanation I really appreciate it

you're welcome, hope it helps if you want to try an expedite too. kiki, i think you may have to wait for a job offer though because you can apply for jobs without an EAD - it's just accepting the job and getting hired that is the problem.

and i know how you feel about staying at home...is there anything you can do around your neighborhood, some volunteer work maybe? i also started doing things like sewing, knitting, cooking LOL, just to take the boredom away.

See, I wanted to start applying as well but I got scared when I saw that many places, you check a box stating that you're allowed to work in the States. Since I'm on F-1 (though no longer applicable) and I dont have SSN or EAD for that matter, I'm afraid that I'll play with fire if I check the box, without the permission to work yet.

AOS from F-1, maintaining status

August 2010 was introduced to each other during a visit in NY.
01/14/2012: Arrived at JFK with F-1 visa with the intention of studying for three years, and then do OPT. Intention was not to get married!
Yet, almost five semesters as a full-time international student later he proposed ...

04/07/2014: Married in Queens, NY

06/26/2014: I-485, I-130, I-765, I-131 and supporting documents sent to Chicago Lockbox via USPS Priority.

06/30/2014: USPS states delivery happened 6:50 am.

07/07/2014: Received NOA of I-130, I-485, I-131, I-765 dated 07/02. --- What a great 3-month anniversary gift!

07/15/2014: Received Biometrics appointment scheduled 07/31, in Long Island City.

07/31/2014: Biometrics done. Process took 45 minutes. 99% was waiting time. Awesome people working there. Good experience!

08/06/2014: Case i-485 updated to Testing & Interview on uscis.gov - - Yay!

08/29/2014: Updates on I-765, card in production as well as I-131.

09/04/2014: Update on I-485, interview scheduled for October 10th, 2014.
09/08/2014: Received combo-card. Went straight to Social Security office to get SSN.
09/15/2014: Received Social security card in mail.

ROC

10/07/2016: USPS stated I-751 was delivered. Also sent in fee waiver request.
10/19/2016: Got everything back, with denied fee waiver. They misspelled my name. Makes me wonder if they even read my application. My name is all over the papers.
10/25/2016: Sent in ROC (I-751) again, with USPS.

10/29/2016: I-751 delivered again.
11/2/2016: Checks cashed

yes, most of the jobs i applied for had that too, most with the wording "without sponsorship" tacked on the back. i checked the box on the basis that i would have EAD in hand once i was formally hired (i.e. accepting the offer) and would not need sponsorship from the company. i also explained this to the hiring managers and showed them copies of my NOA1 for EAD and AOS. most were quite understanding about it and just emphasized that once i accepted the offer, i would have to show proof of legal work authorization within 3 days.

We had our Biometrics taken in Fort Smith, Arkansas this morning. The lady in the ASC was very sweet. Only took about 10 minutes. We noticed that the signs on the outside said that this location works by appointment ONLY. In fact, several people came in and wanted things done without appointments. They were told to make an Infopass appointment and were sent on there way. For us it was a 3 hour drive each way. Now we are ready for more of the waiting game for the EAD/AP and Green Card. I believe from the reaction of the security guards, we were the FIRST gay couple at this office. But we were treated very nice and respectfully.

Biometrics successfully done today. I must say Elizabeth NJ ASC is probably the worse in the entire US. Extremely rude employees that are frustrated with their miserable life and job. The environment is just plain ghetto and looks scanty inside. The line of people was probably as long as the Amtrak trains smh. My appointment was scheduled at 3PM but arrived there at 10AM and this fat a*** woman of a complete bozo actually sent me back saying I came too early. Excuse me! are u f****** kidding me?! She couldnt even respond to my greetings in the first place, im like ma'am if u woke up on the wrong side of ya bed this AM u dont have to channel that frustration to innocent people. Anyways I left there feeling so pissed off but later returned at 2pm. Omg there was a long line and 15 people ahead of me!!! Long story short, took about 45mins from arrival to completion. The guy who captured my biometric was kind enough to let me retake the picture once. In all, my experience was horrible and less than satisfying but thank God im over this phase. They need to fire everyone who works there cos it's really pathetic!!!!!! Now my question is, when can I request for expedited processing of the I-765?? Thanks

I went to my CUNY school yesterday with the NOA of I-485, and copies of marriage certificate - to change my last name - and three copies of my leases going back to 2011. She said it'd probably take some time, and maybe they even needed more paperwork. So like always, I expected a lot more headache and work - but guess what! Today already, the changes went through and instead of paying $3405 for six credits (last semester) I'm only paying $1658! Already been through 5 semesters of $6300 for each one so $1600 will be nothing .... So happy! Less to worry about now.

I'm curious whIch CUNY do you attend?? Cos not all of them would let u get in state tuition with only a NOA-1. They almost always require the physical GC before anything else

No, it doesn't seem to be the case. At least not anymore: http://www.cuny.edu/about/resources/citizenship/faqs/tuition.html

I'm in the CUNY BA program, so I take classes at different CUNY Schools, but my home-college is City Tech.

Did you sent it through USPS? Were you able to track your package that it reached to the destination?

Yep it got there on June 30th. We sent it via certified mail.

We honestly don't mind the waiting part. We'd geared ourselves up for a wait before we heard about EAD/AP and then an even longer wait for the green card. I'm not about to flood the forum with posts about the agonies of waiting. However, it would be nice to know that they've actually opened the envelope and have it safe somewhere :P
