I'm currently in the US on a K1 visa and i recently married my spouse and got the SSN. Ther problem is on filling my petition, her father acted as a co-sponsor, but the adjustment of status needs a sponsor too, but her current earnings cant allow her to file as a lone sponsor. The question is, is there a problem of using her father as a co-sponsor again knowing that he's gonna be liable till i become a citizen.

Two, how long does an AOS take to be approved. Because i'm thinking of getting some work to boost our income, or if I apply for authorization to work from the DHS, how long will it take to go through as i plan to turn in both the DHS authorization to work together with the AOS.

I'll be grateful for your advice regarding this.

I don't see why it would be a problem using her father as a co-sponsor. I am sure you will get some better answer that that, but a sponsor is just the government's way of making sure you are taken care of while in the process of becoming a US Citizen. And I believe due to having a sponsor you are not eligible for certain government aids. I could be wrong

As far as your second questions, did you apply for the I-765 and I-131 in conjunction with your I-485? If you applied all in one like the Wife and I did, you should get your EAD card which allows you to travel outside of the US for emergencies and work while they are processing your green card in 9-12 weeks from the day you receive your first notice of acceptance letter.

I was told by my lawyer that a huge majority of K1 visas are getting the interview waived which can lengthen the process of getting your green card to approximately 9-12 months. If you get lucky and get an interview you should have your green card in 5 months +/- 1 month.

Hope these help you out.

If her father meets the requirement, then he can be the joint sponsor. It would be entirely up to him whether or not he wants to sign, knowing it is legally binding. Have him read the I-864 instructions and through the form itself before agreeing or not.
